I've mentioned in the past that I'd like to see something like the CAR for the other Carc games, and today I decided to put my money where my mouth is as the saying goes. Despite my pretty much non-existant knowledge of the German language, I'm going to translate the rules for Hunters and Gatherers into English and add the FAQ as footnotes. To aid me in this near-impossible endeavor are the RGG rules for H&G which are already in English so that I know what the text should look like. My plan is to translate using Google language tools, and then rewrite the result to make sense. So far it seems to be working ok. Here is my progress thus far: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PGDOA87NI'm hoping to finish this just before or around the same time as the next version of the CAR. Extracting the tile images is a slow and tedious process. Feedback/suggestions welcome.

Finished the first two pages of the HiG rules: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O0UNM1PMI'm finding that in many cases, the German text is identical to Carcassonne, so often I've been using Matt's translation instead of Google's since I think he's more reliable. So far, the only serious deviation from HiG is that I added the numbers in front of "Place a tile" and "Deploy a tribal member or hut" as in Carcassonne. I think it's helpful, and it doesn't change the meaning of anything. I know people are reading this topic, but I was expecting at least a small response. Your encouragement here would be helpful, particularly since I don't even like H&G which makes it hard to stay motivated.

I'd love to check it out, but don't know how to get to it on that site. I got H & G from RGG and would like to see if any differences.
First post here so hope you can help me out.
Thanks

Scott, could you get Joff to host it on his site or something? Megaupload is a hassle to download from...

Hmm... it's a hassle for me to go through Joff every time I want to share a file. How about a different file sharing site, like Mediafire? http://www.mediafire.com/?nmfwnvoxcro

Megaupload makes you type in some letters before you can download; I can see that as being a little confusing. But Mediafire has a big giant link that says "Click here to download". People should be able to figure that out.

Ok, got the download. I like the look of it, even though I don't play H&G, so I would have trouble verifying the rules, etc. This is a nice compliment to Matt's CAR. Excellent work.
What application are you using to edit this Scott? (PM me)

Thanks to those who have offered their words of encouragement. Life has been too busy these past weeks, but I am working on changing that. I want to finish this.

There is no time limit, do not feel as though you have to get this done asap. Everyone here is a volunteer and any work, however long it may take to complete, is appreciated by all.

The only pressure I feel is from myself. I have a lot of things on my plate and always taking on more (sometimes too much). I quit my job this morning (not because of this) so I should be able to polish it off in the next week or two.

Wow, sorry to hear that Scott. As Gantry said, please don't feel pressured to finish this if you don't have the time to do so...
