I play on BSW fairly often.  Sometimes I run into people that are very cutthroat, but other times I play against people who aren't trying to totally screw you over.  I've met a few people who wanted to chat a bit, but most of them don't even bother to answer my hello.

I was on BSW yesterday night (UK time) observing some games being played. I am not sure how to find other users to play with, Start a game , see who's online, etc. It would be of great help if someone who uses BSW regularly to give us a quick overview of how the site works.

For those of us, like me, who have trouble navigating BSW here is a link to a pdf that will help:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/file/info/21551

By the way, I will be signed in as 'joffw' if I am on there.

Do you know how to find people on BSW? I haven't got to that stage yet.

BSW is short for BrettspielWelt which is a German game server. Here you can play many online games, including Carcassonne, with online players around the world. If you download the above guide that will get you started. The BSW main page is located at: http://www.brettspielwelt.de/ Smiley

Although I'm tempted to play on occasion, I typically avoid online games because half the enjoyment is the social aspect.

I agree. I much prefer to play 'face to face'. I have played online in the past, when both Wink of my friends are unable to make a session and when my kids are more interested in 'Coronation Street' and 'Eastenders' or talking to the cat than having a game with their dad!

I did have an online game of Carc at BSW the other day (once I got my head around it) and got absolutely hammered!!!  Crybaby  Some of these guys must play professionally!!!

x2
(I really really like the social aspect of board gaming, so I have not ventured on to BSW yet).
