Got mine for $50 with free shipping.  So not a bad deal.  Was expecting the tiles to have very similar coloring.  Not even close. You can tell there were at least 6 different print runs for the tiles.   Sad

Do the river2 and king and scout tiles have a watermark?

That is disappointing, makes you wonder if they had a bunch of extra unsold tiles and decided to just dump them all together.

Look on the bright side, those tiles will be good to make custom tiles Smiley  That's what I'm getting the big box for!

ditto.  BTW, if you can, go for big box 1.  The tiles all match (with watermarks), and you get another tower dispenser and segments.  Got mine on Ebay TODAY for $50.

As long as you are using a grab bag to make up for the backs having color variations, I guess you have found a silver lining.

But I bought this set for my work place so I wouldn't need to carry the game to and from home.  So for me this is a huge let down.

I just received mine today.  It feels like Christmas morning!  After reading this post.  I'm hoping that I have better luck.  I'll let you know what I find.

Well, I opened the Big Box 2 and my first impression was... Wow, it's big; unnecessarily so.  You could probably fit four base game boxes in it with lots of space around them.  I think the reason for this is the nice plastic form divider in the inside.  There is a little cubby hole for everything and a diagram on the inside of the box lid to show you were everything goes.  All the expansions have there own space as well as the meeples and superfluous tiles.  At first glance (in my dimly lit living room), I did not notice a significant difference in the coloration of the tiles.  I must say, there is a certain amount of satisfaction in punching out all those tiles from their cards.  Each of the tiles in this box had a watermark for their set with the exception of the base tiles.  (I&C-meeple, T&B-pig, A&M-barn, P&D-fairy, all others had a crown.)  The only disappointment was that the original River and Tower are not included.  It seems like they should be, but that's already been discussed.  I'm planning on taking pictures later and I'll try to post them today if I get the opportunity.

I finally figured out a way to make it work...

Here is the outside of the box with the base box in comparison.

This is the storage diagram on the inside of the box top.  Sorry for the flash glare.  I'm a poor photographer.

Here is inside the box.  Notice that there is plenty of room for other small stuff to fit.  The twelve tile tuck boxes fit nicely and come just about flush with the top of the insert.  The tower wouldn't fit in there as it is, but you could take the insert out and I'm sure it would fit fine.

This is the way the tiles fit into the plastic insert.  Kinda nice, but a lot of wasted space.

Here is one tile from each expansion.  You can see the watermarks on each of them.  For me the difference in the ink is minor, but a more trained eye may see something I missed.

I apologize for the sin of not matching the river tile.  I was in a hurry.  I think one could easily store any number of fan-made expansions in this box with no problem if you took the plastic insert out.

Thanks for the photo review.  I hope to get this for the bigger box.  It's also the most cost effective way of getting tiles and meeples to make customs from!

Agreed.  This one is a winner.  It could be better, but beggars can't be choosers.  This is where I got mine.  It's the best price I could find including shipping (in the U.S.).  Supposedly this dealer has a bunch of them.  http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Carcassonne-Big-Box-2_W0QQitemZ350182703299QQihZ022QQcategoryZ378QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262?_trksid=p1713.m153.l1262

I'm going to wait until my local game store has these in stock.  Besides, I'm a bit broke at the moment, and I doubt I'd be able to afford it.
