This has been really seeing alot of play in my house. I am a huge gamer and play a wide variety of games (RPGs, historical miniatures, board games, card games, etc.) but my wife generally just plays regular card games when we get together with other couples. She has probably played one RPG session since we've been married and avoids board games with me with a passion.

That being said, she loves Agricola and has even been the one to request playing on many occasions. This has really taken me by surprise (in a good way). If I had to take a guess, I would say that the general non-combative play is what she likes - there is really not much in the way of "I'm going to attack you" so much as "I'm going to take this and if it screws up your plan, so be it."

We have never played the family game but jumped right into the full game with the cards. I have to say that the cards have kept the game fresh to us and it has a high replay factor.

Cool beans. It is a fun game. Glad it fits well with your wife too, that gets extra points when both people really enjoy a game.

I host a Monday Night Board Game Group and tonight is: Agricola Night. Been awhile since it hit the table and a couple of first time players are coming over tonight.

Update: We ended up having 8 players for Agricola night last night so we broke into two groups and played two four player games. I won the game I was playing in but it was an up and down race. Things with this game is that it really is hard to predict the outcome until teh scores are tallied. Big fun.

Yes. My wife doesn't like games with lot of rules and lot of elements. Agricola has simple rules and lots of elements. We played it once for trying and she liked it. I just have a major problem. The folks I play with are not very good english readers, if you get what I mean. So I'm translating the boards and the cards to Portuguese. It's a lot of work but I like to do it, because things are coming out well and I think it's worth the trouble.

Have you looked at boardgamegeek.com? It looks like they have some stuff in Portuguese.

Picked up Agricola on Saturday (While Maddie picked up a couple of extra Carcassonne games for School - she teaches at a special needs school and the kids loved it).

Took a little while to get our head around it - only new comers to board games.

We really enjoyed the game, we played the Family version but will soon be getting into the Full version.

Now it's a toss up between one of the Carcassonne Games or Agricola. Huh?
