I tried searching for this but haven't been able to find the answer.

In the standard river expansion, the lake comes EXTREMELY close to the edges of the tiles.  I've been playing as if this tile acts as a barrier to farms.  Is this the case?

The picture below might help.  If i had a farmer right above the cloister in the picture below, would he be controlling the farm that is below the river on the cloister tile (and to the right of the road)?  Hope that makes sense.

(on my tiles, the lake comes a lot closer to the edges of the tile than this)

The Games Quarterly mini-expansion (from Issue 11 of Games Quarterly magazine) included a new spring tile with a road dividing the tile into two separate farms, to help address the issue of mega-farms which go around the ends of the spring and lake tiles.

<plug>You can also print out various tiles with roads that divide the farms from the Fishermen expansion (it's in the public downloads section of the site), and/or if there is a configuration that you would like to have, but can't seem to find the time, you can request that one be made - just follow the link in my "signature" below. </plug>

i'm on it!  the first day i signed up i spent figuring out the best way to make my own tiles.  I'm pretty sure i'll go with the chipboard + labelsheet technique.

thanks again Smiley

This is sort of off topic, but that arrangement of the tiles you have is illegal (two u-turns) :P

But, I have something to add.  What about the lake tile with the Volcano?  Mine pretty much touches the edge.  I find if I played another field segment next to it I can obviously tell that the farm extends around it, but some of my friends find it hard to see what I'm saying unless I show them.

i think my eyes are bigger than my materials, but i was hoping to practice on some forest tiles and then do the fishermen series as well as the two "math guy" sets.

And at least for now, it will probably stop at 3.  I'm out of ideas for new tile designs.  Looking at the basics, there isn't much left that hasn't been doe before.  Plus I think it's time for other people to show their creativity.

I'm not sure whether I'm relieved or sad at that statement.   But it's OK, it may not be easy to get inspiration for new tiles Smiley

It's ok to be both.  I know I've taken a lot of your time, but it is greatly appreciated.  I'm normally not a very creative person, but I think that many of the tiles are great additions to the game.  Now what would be cool would be to see one of the designs show up in an official set.

I think it would have to be field at the edge otherwise it would be illegal to connect another tile to it if it were volcano.  Also page 42 of CAR v5.0b4 lists that tile as "fffs" confirming it is a tile with 3 field side and one river side (stream).
