I'm just wondering how people will feel if a variant uses the rolling of dice as a mechanic.  I saw a couple of these on BGG yesterday.  Comments?

Dice feels out of place to me, but I'm not opposed to the idea.

It is out of place.  Maybe there should be some way to mimic the effects of dice without using dice, like count the number of tiles around a particular tile... or something.

That might remove some of the randomness, because players have control over tile placement.

That's what I thought as well.  How about naming road or castle picking x random tiles from the supply to get a random number, where x = a fixed number of tiles (say 6)?
