While browsing BGG, I came across a post in which the question was asked "If someone adds a segment to a road or castle where he has a builder, therefore triggering the builder-activated "second-turn", can the player place an Abbey in lieu of drawing a second tile?"

I have never thought about this before. I would imagine that the builder can build an Abbey, but what do others think, or is there a definitive answer already from our friends at HiG?

(The BGG thread is: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/333459)

Tiberius

Edit: Having thouight about this a little, if there is a tile that can be drawn from the supply then an Abbey tile would be able to be played as it would not break the rule that Abbey tiles can be played instead of drawing a tile from the supply.

Makes sense to me that it can be played, unless there's something else that conflicts...

I see the Tiberius there.  I guess that's something we best ask HiG about... once Matt finishes his big and important Thesis, of course.

I suspect it could be possible, considering the normal rules for the abbey tile are that you can place instead of drawing.

Well, as it's written on the annotated rules, if playing the abbey is an alternative to draw a tile then YES, it's possible. I can see no other rule that makes this impossible.
Speaking of which:
If I play an abbey on a city with my constructor, can I draw another tile? What I mean is: if I replace the first draw with playing an abbey, can I draw the (supposed to be) second tile?

I don't think so.  The abbey doesn't extend the city/road, so there's no second tile possible.

No, that's not possible. As Novelty has said, the placing of an Abbey does not extend and feature. The playing of an Abbey brings all features that connect to an abrupt halt. Therefore, any Builder is not able to draw a second tile.

From the latest CAR, footnote 161:

Quote
Question: If a player completes a feature with an abbey tile and their builder is on the feature, does the feature get 'extended' by the abbey, and if so does the player get another tile?
Answer: No, the abbey is a separate feature.

Just in case you do not know, if you click on the CARnew text, it will link you to the latest CAR.

Excuse me guys but I didn't get the answer to the first question on this topic. Can I play the Abbey instead of drawing the second tile? I just gave my opinion
