These are not 'official' expansions. Rather thy are fan made expansions.

Now, HiG might well have given their 'blessing' to these being sold, but that does not make them official. These are the type that are regularly sold on eBay in Germany.

See this thread: http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/forum/index.php?topic=414.0

I see that they have been placed as 'official' class, which, perhaps if HiG will publish then all well and good. However, they appear in this list of unofficial expansions on BGG: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/List_of_unofficial_expansions_for_Carcassonne They are: Urban Expansion; The Plague and The Holy Grail.

I find it interesting that the official expansion Das Katapult has not yet got an entry on BGG, but fan made expansions like those gets included.

I should apply for Carcassonne: Row, row, row your boat to see if I get a listing :p

I highly suspect that these will not be given official status Smiley

What I mean is that they appear listed as official expansions on BGG: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/metasearch.php?searchtype=game&search=carcassonne

When you click on the said expansion it tell you that they are published by HiG... making them appear 'official'! Now, like I said, perhaps HiG will be releasing these in the near future as official expansions, but I doubt it.

The actual originator of these three 'expansions' is Frederick Scholta.

It is quite confusing when these show on BGG as being published by Hans Im Glick. Quite a dubious move by the poster if they are not being published officially.

I do not know enough about this to flag these as inappropriate entries on BGG, but it would be nice to confirm or deny whether these will be released through official channels.

Update:

I just posted a question on the BGG forums. I asked the same question on each game entry asking to have clarification as to whethere this was official material or a fan created expansion. Hopefully a response will get posted.

Second Update:

I contacted BGG admin and asked them to review the validity of these entries. I would hate for the public to be mislead.

All three of the links no longer work. I would assume that they were pulled from BBG.

I don't see how the copyright can be maintained by BGG, when the rights are with HiG.  What does BGG's action has anything to do with HiG's copyrights?

Also, if HiG is strict about protecting its copyrights, they would probably have asked Gantry legally to remove all the custom tiles from this site, for instance, not to mention the numerous other sites out there.

However, I agree it is a good thing, because these fan-made sets are definately not "canon", and listing them would probably confuse players looking for infomation about the many (official) expansions and spin-offs for the game.

Edit: I reported the publisher of the 3 games as not being HiG and that the games were fan-made and unpublished.  I presume that contributed to those 3 listings being removed.  You can just click on the Submit Correction link for the game and it'll take you to a form.

Edit2: Perhaps the moderators can move this thread to the "general" forum as it is not really news...

Tip for you Deatheux (and for everyone else who might not know): You can use the "Quote" link to quote the entire post, then edit the post to only contain the quote you want in your post so that the quote shows up in a box in your post.

Well, BGG does have a policy of only listing published games and expansions.  Fan-made stuff are usually not listed there.  However, after this incident, I wonder if the guys approving the new game pages are even fans of Carcassonne... oh well, there's always this site!  Maybe I will create a Variants guide or something like that somewhere on these forums.
