When i "close" an EMPTY city OR road, and i don't have a meeple to assing the road/city, can i add it in my "completed" list of road/cities???

--> the rules talks about COMPLETED features not SCORED... just to be sure.

also, IF a tile close 2 roads and 1 castle, can i mark 2 roads and 1 castle in my "completed" list of road/city? or(yet again) i have either to score/control one or more feature...

the question looks to be redumdant, but this will confirm many points in the games.
thx VERY Much!

The King and Robber Baron yield points for completed cities and roads respectively, regardless of if anyone scored the features. Hence you can add to your list.

In the case of completing 2 roads and 1 castle with a single tile you can add all three of them to your list.

armageddonnick x7!!  this is why i was only scoring 8 - 12 pts per road/city... and on the web game this was raised to +/- 15 - 18 pts!!

thx men!

Hi guys!

I was about to ask similar question, since I do not really understand the scoring rules for this extension  Huh?

Could you please clarify this again: if I close (lay the last tile) to the city or road that belongs to other player (and he, of course, gets the score), who gets the bonus?

P.S. I do ask it because I probably misunderstood the meaning of rule yield points for completed cities and roads. I thought it means getting scores for the city/road but not placing the last tile that closes the city/road (at it has been seen in Traders and Builders).

thank you in advance for clarification.

You guys are confusing me.

At the VERY END of the game, the player holding the King gets 1 point per completed city, and the player holding the Robber Baron gets 1 point per completed road. You can forget about this stuff during the game and worry about it after final scoring.

In the games that I run, when the last tile is placed, any scoring from that turn is dealt with, and final scoring begins. We go through all the incomplete cities, roads, and cloisters starting with the player in last place and award points where appropriate. Meeples are removed from the board as features are scored until only farmers are remaining. Then we do the end-game farmer scoring, removing meeples are farms are scored. All the tiles are now empty. We now award the 10 bonus points for any players with majority of trade goods. Finally, we can award the bonus points for King and Robber Baron.

Start with the King because cities are easier to count. If you have trouble remembering if a city has been counted, place a meeple on it. When you have the total, award the points and clear the meeples off the tiles again. Now do the same for roads, deploying meeples to each one to keep track. Total it up, award the points, and you're done.

I get the impression that some of you are trying to count completed roads as they happen, which is more trouble than it's worth.

Now I got it!!! Shocked Player holding the KING or ROBBER BARON figure is awarded extra point for every city or road that are completed (at the end of the game) independent of who owned them and who closed them. Huh!  Happy warped

Thank you Scott very much for saving us all here! Bouncy angel

And if I understand correctly, in order to get KING or ROBBER BARON card, one need to build (it means to OWN) city or road that has more tiles in it that previous one. Am I correct?

(I was confused with the difference between owning/scoring and closing/placing the last tile)

The king or robber baron tile is awarded to the player who completes a longer road or a larger city. The player completing the longer feature does not have to own the feature concerned.

For example, a player is awarded the king tile when he completes a 2 tiled city. I then close a city containing 5 tiles. The king tile is then passed to me. Another player might also then complete a 5 tiled city. The king tile is not shared, it remains with me. However, if someone completes a 6 tiled city, then the king tile is passed to that player. This is the same for the robber baron tile for road building. The road being completed must be longer than the previous longest road and not equal to for the robber baron tile to be passed on.

At game end, the player holding the king tile recieves 1 point per completed city and the holder of the robber baron tile recieves 1 point per completed road (This, as you rightly said, is regardless of who owns the road or cities and who completed them).

It is helpful to keep track of the size of the city/road on the scoreboard by using neutral coloured tokens, etc. In my case I use a purple coloured meeple (purple=king) to indicate the size of the largest city so far, and a brown coloured meeple (brown=robber) to indicate the size of the largest road so far.

Thank you Joff for clear explanation!

Though isn't it kind of unfair?  Confused eyes

Imagine, player A is putting lot of effort in building his mega-city (mega-road), and then suddenly player B comes with the closing tile (crossroad) and o-la-la - player B has the trophy.

I believe you that the rule is exactly the way you explained. I am just not very happy with it. It makes a game different ...  Undecided

It is an incentive to close other people's roads and cities, so in a way it makes the game more competitive. However, nothing stops you from having a house rule that says that you have to own the city or road for it to count towards The Baron and/or the King; or to skip them altogheter Smiley
