Anyone played? Any recommended expansions? I am getting it in about three weeks and just am trying to plan my spending from there.  :Smiley

Derek, I've found your poll on BGG most interesting. I have just got M44 in a maths trade, which I am quite pleased about. I've been wanting to try the game out for some time, but did not want to pay for it directly, so trading a game away that I don't like is great. I am not going to buy any expansions for this until I know that it's a keeper.

Anyway, I signed up for online play at the DOW site and will be having a go solo very soon (perhaps even this evening).

Well, I've had a couple of games on the DoW site.

My first two games were false starts as I tried to get a grip on the system. I must confess, the cards confused me a little to begin with. I bailed out of both games early on as I was getting confused. I then went and had another look at the rules and the DoW 'How to Play' video.

Venturing back in, I tried another two games, but both games ended early as I lost connection with the server. However, the next game ended with a win for 'Johnny' (the DoW AI) who was playing the Axis. My next game was better and I scored my first win (Allies).

This is quite a fun game system and a great introduction to war games. I don't think I want to go deeper (except for trying Twilight Struggle and War of the Ring - if we class them as war games). I think I'll also go for a couple of expansions (namely Eastern Front and Campaign book - perhaps also the desert/snow board). I have also managed to trade a game for the Mediterranean Theater, so that starts me off nicely. We'll see how we go.
