After being handily thrashed this evening by a kid I taught how to play three days ago, I've come to the conclusion that I stink.  I haven't kept track of my record, but I know it's not good.  I guess there is some consolation in knowing that I teach it well anyway.  It would be nice to win sometime though!

I feel your pain!

I find that when I teach new people this or most any other game to newbies there is some sort of assumption that because I own the game and know how to play I therefore must be good and the one to beat.  I find I often become the target to beat.  Ah well, usually if they have a good experience from the get go they'll play (and beat me) again later.  At least it means I'm getting to play.

Haha, I know the feeling. When I'm explaining the basic game to new players, I always make sure to mention the luck-factor - once you play with multiple expansions, it becomes more and more like a strategy game. Therefore, I often play the variant where you have 3 tiles in your hand (or on a fancy tile holder like this one: link).

This happens to me with most games. I don't think the people I play with even notice the lengthy losing streak I've had. I'm just happy they're having fun, but it would be nice to win one, or at least not get ganged up on.

I have the same issue, I generally become the target for two or three of the people to take out. I think I might be playing to the perception a bit though. Not that I'd admit that at the table Smiley

I am always really pleased when I win, which means that it does not happen often enough, either!

Anyway, you've got many comrades in arms....

We play less aggressive at home.  We don't really steal people's cities or roads or anything.  Unless they get silly and try to have some big 5000 point city...lol...

We all pretty much win the same around here.

Hate to ruin the vibe here, but I actually win much more than I lose, particularly at Carcassonne. However I have the problems of going on win/loss streaks, and when it rains, it pours. If I start losing it is horrible beatdowns, when I win it is either amazingly dramatic(ie the great comeback from nowhere) or there was no way for my opponents to comeback(or even close to me). I have the occasional close win/loss here and there though.

I think I've won more times than I lost, but I don't mind losing at Carc because I have fun just playing it.

I agree but it is more fun when you win.
