FallCON 2009 (Calgary in September)

FallCON is held every September in Calgary, Alberta. From what I hear, it is a very well run gaming convention. A few people from my game group are headed there. This will be my first year at this event. Anyone here attending this?

It would appear so. The Adra Tunnel shows some signs of instability and collapse, it would be costly to make it safe I would think.

THanks. IT was a great trip. High on my recommend list. For me, this wasa trip that has been on my bucket list for a few years.

Now onto some kvr comments & questions:

1. When I rode it, it was pre-forest fire, and everything was so lush and green at the time it was like being on the coast.  So sad to see all those burnt trees, looks like a wasteland now
2. Did the bear banger work first shot? Some bears get used to them.
3. I stayed overnite in that little cabin!
4. When I went thru, I don't recall Adra being blocked, at least not with those big concrete barriers.
5. wtf free water bottles? sheesh back in my day, to get water we had to wait for winter to melt snow in our boots

Yes. The fire was a huge one and it caused a lot of damage. It was really quite beautiful seeing the phases of regrowth and the cycle of burn & grow. One of teh side benefits, was the lack of foliage meant we had much better views of the valley and lakes. Would have been could to experience both views though.

Worked like a charm. We were most concerned cuased we spotted a cub and thought there might have been another cub. Did not want to get between mama and her cubs.

Chute Lake Resort looks like it has fallen into a state of disrepair. I think business has been down consdierably since the fire. Hopefully, with the trail being officially re-opened and all of the trestles in tact once again, the resort will pick up and claim some of its former glory. Still, a great spot.

There were some partial cave-ins just a few years ago and they decided to block off the tunnel.

Ha ha ha. It was pretty cool to see a guy with his camper set up for the summer months to man a water and fresh apple station. Quite a surprise to see. Very friendly too.

Anyone thinking of doing this trip.... DO IT!
