Title: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: raberjr on September 14, 2007, 01:20:54 pm :'( Okay folks, In order to track down a copy of The Cathars, I've scoured the internet, emailed every internet game shop, tried to read German on the Spielbox website (that was a vain attempt), and any other method you could think of. The Carcassonne 'completist' in me has 'almost' decided to give up (I never will though ;) ). Is there any way to get a copy of these four crazy tiles??? That stinks that they are no longer available. Anyway, if anyone has an extra copy and will trade (for GQ #11 expansion) or has a way of obtaining this expansion, please email me at rbowell@gbim.org or share with the whole group. I'm all ears. It seems like Knucklebones won't be releasing The Cathars expansion as earlier reported.
I know someone at BGG has a copy for sale for about $30 but I'm not interested at that price. desperate, raberjr Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Gantry on September 14, 2007, 05:15:56 pm Funny you should post this, I was thinking the same thing, however I'll trade two GQ#11 expansions and a brand new left sock for it!
Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: crasher on September 14, 2007, 07:38:03 pm Spielbox will eventually reprint them. Probably as part of some new "Carcassonne Almanac" or something. The refused to share with Jay because they wanted it exclusively.
Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: EcoGuy on September 14, 2007, 10:11:48 pm I cannot make any promises ... but a friend of my girlfriend in Cologne runs a really small game shop and that is where I purchased my Cathars (as well as most of my expansions) last year. I will have her look if they have any copies left for sale and let those who are interested know and can go from there ...
Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: crasher on September 15, 2007, 09:06:38 am We're all interested! :)
I'd pay up to $5 per set. I have a lot of friends who would like to get their hands on it. Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: mikee on September 17, 2007, 09:43:59 am I just purchased a copy of the Carcassonne Almanach, which comes with Die Katherer, from www.spielerei.at (http://www.spielerei.at) for 5 euros. Shipping was about 8 euros.
Thier website says they still have it in stock. Someone there (Pia, if I remember correctly) does speak english and is fairly helpful. I would recommend emailing them to do the purchase, as I don't think their website is set up for international transactions. I also saw a copy recently at www.robbirob.com (http://www.robbirob.com) - not sure if he still has it. Robert speaks english and has excellent customer service. No pushing, no shoving, form an orderly line.... ;D Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: mikee on September 17, 2007, 02:15:53 pm There's also one up for auction on ebay right now as well:

thanks! Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: mikee on September 18, 2007, 07:58:38 pm indeed, that deserves a merit point (well its the thought that counts) :) Ahhh, my moment of glory... ;) It took me quite a bit of searching to track down the Cathars, so I know how you all feel. I don't think I've ever gone that many pages deep into google searches before! The trick was to search for the Almanach (not the expansion) and scour every German online game store I could find. Amazing what we'll go through for 4 little tiles, ain't it!!! Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: mikee on September 19, 2007, 12:10:58 am Another one just showed up on ebay, check it out here. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120163349414&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1)
Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Wishmaster on September 19, 2007, 08:09:02 am I just purchased a copy of the Carcassonne Almanach, which comes with Die Katherer, from www.spielerei.at (http://www.spielerei.at) for 5 euros. Shipping was about 8 euros. That's how I got hold of my copy. There was an order form on the site, but they dropped that part. Sounds promising that you got one there as well after they'd taken it off though. It might be the smallest expansion but those 4 tiles can make for a very different game and are well worth searching for. The Almanach is aslo a reasonable read, although there's nothing that new or unknown in it now. Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Borderking on September 20, 2007, 10:18:09 am I just ordered mine today from that same site, www.spielerei.at. I just wrote a simple email asking if I could purchase the Carcassonne Almanach (including Die Katharer) if I lived in the United States. Pia wrote back to me immediately, super-politely, saying no problem, and I could pay either with a credit card, Paypal, or bank transfer. I payed by Paypal to the same email address, and the total cost was something like 13.85 in Euros, which was about $19.96 American, something like that. The whole process was very smooth. You might think that's a lot to pay, but I don't mind paying the extra $10-$12 to spare me the months and months of searching. So, anyone else who wants it for less than $20, it's as easy as pie. Thanks for the recommendation!
Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: mikee on September 21, 2007, 11:17:35 pm The whole process was very smooth. Yep, that was my experience too. It did take a while to arrive, maybe a couple of weeks or so... maybe that's not so bad, but to an overgrown kid like me, it seemed like FOREVER! :) Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Tobias on September 26, 2007, 06:09:29 am Now is my Almanach in the mail. €12.55 for four tiles is a tad steep - but the evilness that will now be in my possession makes it totally worth it. Muahaah ::| Euros? No I think that's quite OK. You get the tiles, which cam completely alter how a game plays and a worthwhile read as well. Money well spent for a true fan. Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Scott on October 29, 2007, 09:35:17 am I sent an e-mail to Spielerei to see if they have any more copies of the Almanach. Pia wrote me back saying they are out of stock. :(
Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: EcoGuy on October 29, 2007, 02:33:44 pm I am visiting Koln for the next week +. As in my previous post I am willing to check at the myriad of small game shops for the almanac if anyone is interested and I will pick as many up as I can find for those who are interested. Just post a reply and as many as I read I will get that many ... that is if I can find any. I can ship them for free once I get back. The only downfall is the dollar is way down against the Euro =/ so I am not sure what it will cost to pick them up. Just let me know if you have a limit or I guess I will just be stuck with a bunch of Cathars tiles ... =))
Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Scott on October 29, 2007, 03:44:32 pm I am very interested in one set. (I live in Canada.)

Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: EcoGuy on October 31, 2007, 02:59:18 pm OK all I will do my best. ;) I leave tomorrow. I already put a call into my friend to start looking and if nothing else we have an in with a mutual friend that runs a small game shop. I will see what I can do .... let you know in 2 weeks. ;D
Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Borderking on November 02, 2007, 09:21:13 am Finally got my Cathars in the mail that I ordered from Pia about a month ago! But the long wait was worth it. If her stock fills back up again, it's definitely an easy route to take!
Can someone remind me...You can take knights out of a besieged city (with an adjacent cloister or abbey), but does that rule apply to knights only, followers only, meeples only? For example, can you remove builders? Mayors? Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Scott on November 02, 2007, 01:17:34 pm I suspect that builders cannot escape since they are not followers. If all the knights escape, the builder would be automatically removed since he cannot exist by himself. Big followers would definitely be considered "knights", but I'm not sure about mayors. My inclination is that the Mayor could probably escape too since he is a follower, but I'm not certain.
Considering Cathars is out-of-print, I doubt that Pia will get anymore until Spielbox does a new almanac. Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Joff on January 19, 2008, 03:46:31 am There are 3 Cathars available (from the same seller) at this moment on eBay priced at 25.00 EU each, and on 'Buy It Now'. Unfortunately he does not have PayPal, but it might be worth looking at.

Post by: canada steve on January 19, 2008, 07:16:52 am Borderking, yes knights can be removed from an incomplete cathared city providing it touches onto a cloister/abbey. A builder cannot be in a city on its own. A mayor is not a knight so I presume would have to remain until the city is completed and scored, however rule clarification maybe needed on that one. I would also assume that the wagon would be stuck in a cathared city as it is not a knight either, so careful placement is a must. ;D
Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Alricthemad on January 24, 2008, 01:41:41 pm Hi all, new here.
I am interested in the Cathars tiles. Looks like an e-bay auction is out. Already up to $39.00 Does anyone have Pia's e-mail address? Or any other source. Much appreciated Alric Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Joff on January 24, 2008, 02:09:58 pm I think the only way to obtain the Cathars now is, unfortunately, eBay. Mine cost me €35.25 (about £26 or $52) which included shipping from Germany. I believe shipping to the USA was about €2 more. It is a bit much for 4 tiles, in fact, now I think about it... extortionate! But, for me, I am pleased that I actually own them. Lets hope the new tiles coming in Count, King and Consort will be similar.
Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Alricthemad on January 24, 2008, 02:54:18 pm We can only hope I guess.
Does anyone have a clue when the new expansion will be out? Title: Re: Last call for The Cathars (Die Katherer)... Post by: Scott on January 24, 2008, 08:49:05 pm Does anyone have Pia's e-mail address? I sent an e-mail to Spielerei to see if they have any more copies of the Almanach. Pia wrote me back saying they are out of stock. :( The impression I got was that they won't be getting any more, so I don't think we need to bother her with this anymore. I'm really tempted to foot the exorbitant bill for Cathars, but the prospect of an official re-release from Spielbox since they are out of stock as well gives me a bit of hope and patience. |
