Title: Trader category
Post by: CKorfmann on November 16, 2009, 03:03:28 pm
I was thinking that perhaps on the download page it might be appropriate to have a subcategory for trade good expansions.  There are a good number of those at this point.

I think a traders category is a great idea.  I asked some questions in another thread about suggestions on where to start with fan made expansions and the discussion quickly turned to and focused on the numerous trader expansions there are. I still haven't had a chance to try them yet but I greatly appreciated the advice.

And if a reorganization of the downloads page were to happen to include trade good expansions, I would also suggest a possible section for 1 or 2 tile expansions and expansions that can be played as just 2 tiles.  There may not be a lot of them but I know I found CC originally looking for ideas for my 2 creativity tiles and would bet a number of others may have found it the same way.  It might help people get started without feeling overwhelmed by 150 forest tiles.

So this would include expansions like:
- Kings Gate
- Archery Tournament
- Market Commons
- Roman Road and Roman Temple
- Lord of the Manor (Noted that it can be just one city and one farm castle until you add more expansions)
- The Medieval Expansion could be noted as well since its designed as several small expansions

I guess the same could be accomplished just by including the tile count in the descriptions like the forest does.

This probably isn't that big a deal but it crossed my mind after getting all the advice I got.

That's exactly how I found the site.  I've suggested the same thing before.

These all got suggested to me as Trader expansions...are there any more? I guess there are some that are specific to large fan mades as well...

- Fruit Traders
- Cocoa Traders
- Foreign Traders
- Apothecaries and Tithes
- Mills and Bakeries
- Lavender Fields
- Gold Mines
- Cleric and Serf (Cloister Tokens are really just marker to keep track with but the bonus is the same)

It would be interesting to run a poll asking how people found CC with options like "looking for 2 tile creativity ideas," "looking for rules clarification," "found a link/reference on such and such a site" (please say where below), etc etc etc.

On that topic it might be interesting to run a poll to see what types of expansions people would like to see more of like "Trade good expansions," "new features," "more meeples" etc etc etc and see where the interest lies.  OF course that would be more valuable if it wasn't the same couple a dozen members who actually make all these expansions answering the polls.  You'd need response from more guests and things to make that valuable.

When you guys get the time, go have a look at the downloads page and thank Gwommy for the icons.

Authors, please let me know if you want me to add/remove icons for the expansions you've made (and only those you've made).

They look good. The Two Towers has one honey trade good, is it considered an expansion with trade goods (they are not new, only expanded slightly)?

More of Gwommy's icon goodness are now on the downloads page.  Thank you very much Sir Gwommy :)

I really like all the icons that have been added and see that some of the icons are for "requires Forests" or "requires Mountains."  Though I don't want to flood the downloads page, should there be icons for official expansions a fan made may add to and/or require?  Like Duel Dragons requires P&D, Black Tower requires the Tower, and there are several others.  Not a lot that are but if theres an icon for the fan mades it seems like the official expansions ought to be listed.  But like I said, I wouldn't want to flood the downloads page and maybe there are to few to be worth it.  Maybe just one icon for expansions that require specific official expansions.

That's probably going a little far.  Although, I was thinking that there should be an icon for expansions that use extra meeple.  Granted, there is a category for them, but there are others that need extra meeple hiding in the ocean and forest lists.

And I can't figure out what determines whether the expansion gets the '2' tile icon or not.  I see it's next to many expansions that has 6 tiles or more.

I think Novelty's inclusion of the icon with some of those just means that it is possible to just use two of those tiles and have it still work just fine.

The icons will probably be too small to make sense.  However, it would be good infomation to be included - and the best way to do that would be as text.  If someone could make me a list, I'll insert the text ASAP.

Done.  Meepleater, I would appreciate it if you could tell me which of your expansions require the new icon.  Gwommy has also made an Oceans icon, but since that is currently within its own category, I figured we don't need it yet unless someone else develops a non-Oceans expansion with Oceans tiles.

It says so in the index near the top:
(http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/images/download/2b.gif) indicates that the fan-made expansion can be played with only 2 new tiles.

This looks great.  One small note on the Ocean, the main expansion should have the meeple symbol as well.  Also the Buried Treasure expansion will have one too, which brings up another question: What about an icon for special tiles or pieces that grant abilities or perform special actions but never are put into play?  I've noticed a lot of people are coming up with all kinds of ideas like spinners, large tiles, treasure maps, etc.  Maybe there could be an icon for "specialty items/features" that would basically show the ones browsing the page that this expansion will require some unconventional crafting?

These are the fan mades requiring, or designed to be played with, specific official expansions I’ve noted thus far from the single expansions and those requiring meeples.  I don’t really know the various “series” so I don’t know what they need.  Except Dragon’s Lair which I picked out from the description that it adds dragon icons.

Traders and Builders
-Cocoa Traders

The Tower
-Black Tower

Princess and the Dragon
-The Arbitress
-Dragon’s Lair
-Outposts
-Dragon Hunters
-Duel Dragons

Abbey and Mayor
-The Musketeer

The Catapult
-Jester and Minstrel

The Cathars
-Invasion of Catharism

Siege
-Invasion of Catharism

King
-Cleric and Serf

The series aren't really designed to be played with anything else except the first title in the series.  A lot of the descriptions does already have the infomation regarding which official expansion is required.
