THIS thread got me thinking about how to pronounce Carcassonne.  I have heard several people pronounce it differently than I do while watching some review videos lately.

I have been pronouncing it as Carcass-On - rhymes with gone.

I have heard it pronounced Carcass-Own - rhymes with lone.

Does anyone know the proper pronunciation?  Preferably a French speaking person.

We pronounce it rhyming with "lone".  But in French I would pronounce it sounding more like Kerr-ka-sunn (I wish I understood phonetic spelling that would be used in this case).

We pronounce it rhyming with "lone" also, for no particular reason - I guess that is what came to us naturally.
Kar-ka-sown

Interestingly, Webster's has is Kar-ka-sawn.

That's how I've been pronouncing it all this time and was wondering if I was wrong.

Edit: Problem SOLVED.

Google Translate pronounces it the same way as the guy in the link that CKorfmann posted. If I think about it, the French pronounciation makes sense to me (six years of learning French in school). Interestingly, if you do a French to English translation on Google Translate, it pronounces it as kar-kas-on, but I've always pronounced it kar-kas-own because that feels more correct to me (and to my ear sounds closer to the French pronounciation).
