Hi everyone,
this last week, we've been playing a lot of Carcassonne in our group (3-5 people) with Traders, Abbey, Dragon, Bridges, Cathedrals, Count, River 1&2 and Phantom (so cute ^_^). We also play with 20 more tiles from Abbey and Cathedrals (the most rare tiles, and the 2 cathedrals). Our group is been playing Carcassonne for 3 years with XBLA "Carcassonne" and River and Baron&King expansions, and just the last months we got the original boardgame.
We have always been the farm-players kind, and since we have bridges, we end up with a big one farm, and we all try to score that over and over again during mid to final game.
We usually end with +500 points each (in XBLA, our record was 220 or so points, normally between 100 and 150 points), but this weekend we have done 3 games with all over +800, and, the funniest of all, I won a game with 1150 or so points, but just 4 points of difference with second player (it was a 3 people game; third player refused to final scoring, as we were 200 points ahead and without anything worth that much). The farm had 30 cities, 2 castles, and the pig herd from River 2.
I've come to the conclusion that the best strategy is usually scoring with low risk at first, try to place "safe" castles near cathedrals-cities, control Count as much as possible, and obviously place your barn as soon as possible and "feed" your farm with cities and castles. Then, in mid game, focus in farms, and trap other players farmer when giving the chance.
So I was wondering, how many points do you usually do? Is your strategy to win usually based on scoring farms?
