A few weeks ago I sent the following email to our friends at Meeple Source (Meeple People). Hello, I'm one of the moderators at Carcassonne Central and I was thinking about starting a t-shirt contest on our site for funny sayings for the game of Carcassonne. I was wondering, as a partner, if you'd be willing to work on this project with us and make some of the shirts to sell in your store. Perhaps you'd be willing to donate one shirt to the winner(s). What do you think? Obviously, you'd get the final say and could make as many or as few of the different shirts as you would like. I'm not sure exactly how much participation we'd get. The site was down for a while, but it's back up and we've got a little boost in traffic lately. Let me know if you're interested and I can set it up and get it rolling. Thanks much, Today I got this reply. It doesn't seem that Cynthia wrote you back about this, so please excuse me if she did and this duplicate information. We would be open to participating in something like that. I'm not sure how many designs we would want to use (or be able to, based on the type of graphics we print), but giving a free shirt to the winner is certainly not a problem. Let us know more about this once you have something more concrete, I suppose. We'll probably need to work out the details here and with them before we start anything, so don't go crazy with ideas yet, but let's talk about it!

That sounds way fun! To me his remark makes it sounds like they'd like to know details of the contest and would pretty much be good to go after that.
So step one would be defining the contest (rules on submission, requirements for the graphic (resolution, acutal size, number of colors, etc)
Step two is based on step one but consists of time allowed for creation and submission of shirt graphics
Step three would be voting on the submissions for some designated amount of time.
Step four would be submitting that to MeeplePeople, the winner gets their shirt free, everyone else buys one in support and everyone is happy.
With alot more clarification and specifics but that would seem to be the general course to take in my opinion.

I agree, it could be fairly simple. Perhaps the first place person could win something a bit more substantial than the t-shirt. Maybe a sweatshirt? 2nd place t-shirt, 3rd place hat? This is assuming of course that all the submissions/winners would be suitable for each of those items. This of course would be largely up to Meeple People. I guess we just need to see what they're up for.
As for the contest, I would guess the rules would be up to us. Officially, I'd like to get Gantry and/or Matt's approval before we start.

How would submissions work? Would you (or someone else) upload an image of a blank T-Shirt front&back template that people would use photoshop on for text&graphics and then send in this image, or would people simply describe on this (or another) topic?

This is what I wish to inquire about too.

I'm open to whatever works. I don't know that a blank t-shirt image would be necessary though. This is my feeble attempt and probably the rough draft of my first submission. I would think it would be sufficient. I probably won't use Lundquist's image though. Edit: Is there really no more interest than this? I emailed them back to find out the particulars of what they need and what they are willing to do so we can get the rules set. I hope to hear back from them soon.

Still no reply from Meeple People on shirt design peramiters so I emailed them again today. I don't understand why they take so long to respond to people. Hopefully, we'll hear something from them soon and get the ball rolling on this.

Finally received this reply today. Not sure where to go from here. To be honest I don't know if we are interested in actually carrying any shirts on our site that your users submitted.... is that what you wanted? The thing is that you may have seen we have greatly reduced the number of shirts we sell... down to just a couple because the printing and selling of shirts has not been successful enough to keep dealing with it. I don't mind donating a couple of things to a contest you are having in exchange for the advertising... but I don't think we want to offer shirts for sale designed by people... the type of printing we do can only accommodate very specific kinds of designs which is hard to describe to people...

Well, it looks like we might actually be able to get this thing rolling thanks to Carcatronn, he has his own t-shirt buisness. Let's discuss the contest rules and what-not. I'd say one submission per person. Anyone have any thoughts?

So submissions need to be no more than a sheet of paper (8.5x11). Shirt colors available are white, black, royal blue, cardinal red, lime, tan, navy, dark chocolate, tangerine, and maroon.
For printing on color shirts, multi-color designs must have a full background which look best in some sort of shape (rectangle, square, circle, etc.). Single color designs do not need any background.
For printing on white shirts, multi-color designs and single color designs need no background.
1st place winner will get a free T shirt with their design plus 20% off one item from my store 2nd place winner will get 20% off one item from my store 3rd place winner will get 10% off one item from my store
My store is under construction and should be fully operational within a month. So if we say 30 days for submissions on the contest, my store will be online when it's over.

Unfortunately, my contract prevents me from selling overseas. I may only sell to those from the United States and Canada as of right now. If this changes, I will let you guys in the European market know. So submissions need to be no more than a sheet of paper (8.5x11). Shirt colors available are white, black, royal blue, cardinal red, lime, tan, navy, dark chocolate, tangerine, and maroon.

Perhaps you could offer something else for free to any potential European winners. I think we need to settle this issue before we begin.
*This thread is now sticky.
