We all know and respect the great work done my mjharper on the CAR.  As a reference and resource it is invaluable.  To complement the CAR, I am attempting to compile an interlinear rule book that divides the rules not by expansion but by game phase.  This should make it easier to decide when to do what while using all the different expansions and variants.  I am also planning programing the document to allow for users to select the expansions they want to use and then compile a rule book that includes only those expansions and variants.

I intend to start with the expansions included in the Big Box 2 (the set I have) and maybe include some of the less well formalized minor variants (settlers of Carcassonne, trade wagons, village idiots, etc.)  I am making slight edits to the form, but of course I am crediting the creators as best I know how.  Eventually I would love for it to include all of the fan-developed expansions and variations.

Anyway, I thought I would gage interest in this sort of compilation, as well as put out a request for high quality scans of the rules for the various expansions.  Maybe mjharper would be willing supply a higher resolution of the CAR to further my work.

I want to reiterate the high value of the CAR.  I see my work as complementary to the CAR in that it can provide an introduction that can be as light or as heavy as the user wants and combines all the rules from the various expansions and variants in a user-friendly way.

This is my table of contents:

I'm very interested in this. I like the format of the CAR for learning a new expansion, but it would also be handy to have something like this when it actually comes down to playing the game.

This looks like a great idea. I can't wait to see it when it's finished!  I keep hoping someone will take up the call to build a high-quality scoring program.

I guess someone did this already.

Have a look at http://www.aldaron.com/sciencegames/carcassonne/

There you can select your expansions and compile a "special" turn/rule set.

I can do better than that.  I am talking about a fully illustrated rule set that includes fan based expansions.  Thanks for the link though.

By the way, I found the Big Box rules from RGG to cannibalize for images.  I'll get a draft posted when I can.

Now that'll be quite a task.  I made a spreadsheet with a list of all the fan-made expansions and there's around 100 of them. I'm using the spread sheet to keep track of what I have to make to complete each expansion.  I also have a description of the rules for each expansion written in shorthand.

If this project gets completed, that would be quite impressive!  Definitely a tool I'd use.

Ok!  Here is the first release of the Carcassonne CIR: Custom Interlinear Rules.  Tell me what you think.  You will have to have a Macro Enabled Word 2007 Viewer to work the customizable part.

http://www.mediafire.com/?2mjmjhyontm

I have also included a PDF of the Interlinear Rules without the programing associated with customizing it.

It still needs some work I am sure.  Let me know if you find things that need to corrected or if you have a favorite expansion or variant you want added.

Wow!  That's way cool!

For some reason the DOCM wasn't showing me any pics from the Abbey and Mayor expansion, but it looks fine on the PDF file.  Also, when I unchecked just the "Mayor", it still showed things related to the mayor, like it told me each player needed a mayor.

Other than that, it's awesome!  Definite deserving of a meeple merit point!

If you leave the Barns or Wagons checked, it will still show that you need the Mayor pieces and that those pieces should be distributed to everyone, but it will remove the Mayor specific rule set.  My copy of the CIR still has the pictures.  I think there is an issue with the media fire upload.  Try this link for the DOCM file.

I wish there was a way to compile the word file as an executable, but I haven't seen a way to do that.  The Macro-Enabled Word approach was efficient, but there should be a way to make it more widely compatible.

I seem to be unable to download the macro version.

Would it be possible to add rules for The River, The Cathars & The Tunnel?

If you have time, it would be great to see The Missionary, Shepherds, and The King's Gate included.  I haven't had an opportunity to look at it yet.  I hope to do so within the next few days.  I'm excited!

It would probably be appropriate, at this point, to make this thread sticky, no?

The Missionary is already there, along with 7 other fan-made expansions & 8 variants, and 8 of the official expansions. Quite an impressive start.  Thumbs up
