I found the tile images at http://things-of-no-interest.blogspot.com/2009/09/tunnel-add-on-for-carcassonne.html

The bigger image is there at that link, I'm attaching a small thumbnail below   Edit: I removed the image.

Here's my guess at the rules.  When you get one of these tiles, you place it normally and instead of placing a follower, you place the token of the appropriate color on one of the tunnels (or roads leading to it) and when you get a second on, you place it on the second tile as well and the two roads count as one.  Basically, it's the same idea as the King's Gate, but for roads.

That's my take on what I'm looking at.  Any other thoughts?

That sounds like it would make sense, but I would think that you have to play both of the tokens at the same time instead of placing a follower.  And I'll bet that when you finish the road on both sides of the tunnel that you get your tokens back so you can place them again.  And I'd say that if someone shares your road, that they get to use your tunnel with your tokens.  And I'll also guess that you're not allowed to put your 2nd token on the same tile as your first token.  There's my guesses.

I emailed Jay about a possible RGG re-release, and the answer was quite exciting:

"As you probably know, the October Issue of Spielbox magazine is including an expansion for carcassonne, the tunnel. I was wanting to know, will RGG ever re-release this (like cathars/ siege), or would it be better to get it now through spielbox? Thanks.

Yes, I will release it next year. Jay"

I suppose I can wait that long before getting them.  Besides, it'll probably take me a year to make all the tiles once I get them from Chr15lynn.

When i foudn the high-resolution images fo the tiles and colored chits, I jumped the gun and started making a tuckbox for the expansion.

After writing up what I assumed to be the rules, I realized that I simply made them up, and I have no idea what the real rules will be.

My guess:
when you play a tile containing one or more tunnels, you draw a random tunnel marker and place them on the tunnels randomly.  The tunnel will continue on the tunnel of the matching color.  Since there are 11 tunnels and 12 chits, one tunnel will get lost in the mountains.  That road does not end.

Me too.

Oh, and I think that the tunnels can be used to steal (or tie with) other people's roads. Basically, when you draw a tunnel, you can claim the other end (and the just placed end), which can hypothetically steal another player's road if they already have a thief on it. The fact that each player only gets 2 tokens, though, makes this a limited opportunity, which kind of stinks. It's very possible that nothing more than the little round marker is required to claim a tunnel (e.g., you don't need to place a follower a tunnel at all). I am very anxious to see the rules and for Matt to translated/analyze them. I hope they decided to stick watermarks on the tiles, though. The samples don't show any. A hexagon, like the Shrines Spielbox expansion would be acceptable to me. It will keep everything in the same family, that way. I doubt Jay will put any watermark on them if he has to draw his own version like Siege.

It's Spielbox's logo, I'm guessing all of Spielbox's expansions will continue to have that same logo:

That's fine with me. I doubt Spielbox will make too many expansions, and none of them are ever that large. Having the same symbol on them all will make them kind of reminiscent of Count, King & Consort. Too bad they can't go back and add that symbol to the Cathars. Also too bad Rio Grande didn't add a watermark to CS&C.

Wow, it has shipped early.  It's supposed to ship on the 26th October.  Has any BGGer emailed the guy (in Fort Collins Colorado??? Probably closer to Ramstein, Germany...) to ask him if he could take a picture of the rules or something?

I'm on it! If he sends them, I will make sure Matt knows it so he can get out a proper, CAR-style, translation of them.

The guy got back to me. He said he received it in the mail a few days ago (in the US!) so I guess they are shipping. He also said he'll scan a copy of the rules for me and email me them tonight, so except a posting then.
