The RGG website gives details of releases expacted in 2009. In the list it includes a new version of the Carcassonne 'Big Box'. I reproduce the news here with news pertaining to Carcassonne releases highlighted "The new year has started well and we are excited about several projects that are in the works. Dominion continues to be very well received and is now licensed in 14 languages. In addition to the original five of English, German, French, Dutch, and Finnish, we have agreements for Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Czech, Hungarian, Portuguese, Korean, Polish, and Japanese. Most of these will be available in March or April as they will print with are scheduled reprint of the game. Work continues on the first expansion: Intrigue, which will release in April or May. We have also created two promo cards and many of our partners are planning versions for their languages. They are Envoy and Black Market and will be available through Board Game Geek beginning in early March. We released Galaxy Trucker Big Expansion in January and Castle for all Seasons in February. We expect the upgrade packs for those who bought the first edition of Galaxy Trucker later this month and will publish details on how owners of the first edition can acquire them. The upgrade packs will make the basic game compatible with the big expansion. Several games that sold out before the end of the year are now back in stock. These include Race for the Galaxy, St Pete expansion, Carcassonne: Inns & Cathedrals, Carcassonne: Traders & Builders, Zooloretto, and Pickomino. Others will reappear later this month: Race for the Galaxy: the Gathering Storm, Lost Cities Board Game, Galaxy Trucker, Chicago Express, Bausack, Bamboleo, and Niagara. Also releasing in February are: Bonnie & Clyde, Name of the Rose, and a new version of Big Box Carcassonne. This will be in the same size box as the previous, but with a different mix of the expansions. In March, we expect the return of Chicken Cha Cha Cha, Lost Cities Board Game, New World, a Carcassonne Game, Leader1, and Power Grid. We are currently working to reprint several games which have recently gone out of stock: St Petersburg, Power Grid: France/Italy, Power Grid: Benelux/Central Europe, Power Grid: China/Korea, Felix, Jambo Expansion, Princes of Florence, and Stone Age. Ra is nearly done and will be release in the spring. Burger Joint, and Mogul are also close to complete and should also release in the spring. Other games in progress are: Ra, the Dice Game, Samurai Card Game, Race for the Galaxy: Rebel vs Imperium, Lemons & Lemonade, and Dominion: Intrigue. All of this will most likely release i the second quarter. Other games on the horizon are three games from Hans im Glück (Maori, Finca, and Children’s Carcassonne, to be shown at Nürnberg), Priests of Ra (to be released at Essen, 2009), Dominion: Seaside (tentatively planned for Essen, 2009), The Heavens of Olympus, El Caballero (reprint), and a few more still too new to mention now. We also will be offering the Envoy and Black Market promo cards for Dominion through Board Game Geek starting in March. BGG will be collecting a small amount to cover their costs and keep a bit for themselves as my way of supporting this great site."The original article can be read here: http://www.riograndegames.com/news.html?id=14

Having got mostly all of Carcassonne and expansions not really a biggie for me... or indeed quite a few here. However, I'm quite excited about the Dominion news.

I purchased the original 'Big Box' and it was a lovely set. Interestingly, on the Carcassonne entry on BGG, under 'Special Editions', I see there was ( ) a 2008 'Big Box' (highlighted in Red below), although i've never seen it, could this be what's to be included in this 2009 edition? "Special Editions
2008 "Big Box" edition: original Carcassonne game, Carcassonne - Inns & Cathedrals, Carcassonne - Traders & Builders, Carcassonne - The Princess & the Dragon, Carcassonne - Abbey & Mayor, and Carcassonne - Count, King, and Cult. 2006 "Big Box" edition: original Carcassonne game, Carcassonne - Inns & Cathedrals, Carcassonne - Traders & Builders, Carcassonne - The Tower, and Carcassonne - The Princess & the Dragon. 2003 Limited Edition package: original Carcassonne game, Carcassonne - The River, Carcassonne - Inns & Cathedrals, and Carcassonne - Traders & Builders."

If this is true this will be a great way to get new tiles/meeples for fan expansions. Plus, with the big box I might be able to store all my tiles in one box, sorted. Cool.

Hi, I was in Nürnberg today, but I only saw the "Kids from Carcassonne", no new BigBox.. Because I hat to wait from 5pm (Toy Fair closed) till 8.30pm (plane) I went through the city and a local department store offered both BigBoxes for a very good price: 2008 "Big Box" edition: original Carcassonne game, Carcassonne - Inns & Cathedrals, Carcassonne - Traders & Builders, Carcassonne - The Princess & the Dragon, Carcassonne - Abbey & Mayor, and Carcassonne - Count, King, and Cult. 39,99 Euro (51,84 USD) 2006 "Big Box" edition: original Carcassonne game, Carcassonne - Inns & Cathedrals, Carcassonne - Traders & Builders, Carcassonne - The Tower, and Carcassonne - The Princess & the Dragon. 25,99 Euro (38,97 USD) Good price

39,99 Euro (30,85 USD) Actually I've got the 2008-"Big Box" for Christmas: Before Christmas it was available for 29,95 Euro (= 38.85 USD ... you've calculated "in the wrong direction", Tobi, USD are always MORE than Euros )

Laser, can I trouble you to show us the inside... i.e. is it the same as the other big box with the Tower "hole" eventhough there is no Tower with this Big box?

I was expecting a new Big Box, but I'm surprised that it doesn't include everything.

I don't have the plastic inlay any more, as I've put my tiles in a separate-box from the beginning on, but here's the inside of the lid showing how everything was arranged: The box was way bigger than necessary and everything would've easily fit in a standard size Carc-box.

They ditched the Tower expansion and its tower. I don't like this Big Box and want the old Big Box (oh wait, I have it). Still, they need to make a new Big Box with all the expansions, not skipping one or two of them. I assume it skipped the River I as well?

I think it is possible to fit in both the River, Tower and the extra tiles from CS&C (but there's no need to fit in the blank tile)

You mean there is space to do this? Or do you mean it as a rethoric remark that they could have done it? I agree with Whaleyland that a Big box really should include every bloody expansion they have made. On the other hand they (HiG) released an expansion that was not an expansion at all but a compilation so ... you will never know with them. RGG however seems to be a little more sensible.
