I saw that post too, and it doesn't make much sense. Well, at least we know that The Cathars is not included (damn!). Still, the first part is only a translation of the German wikipedia entry, and not the rules themselves — I have no idea where the rest comes from. Best I could find out (from milanspiele.de) was that the expansion is not due for official release until March 2008.
I can translate the entry if you want, but since we've got nothing to compare it to, there's no way to verify that it's actually reliable…

I really really do not like that kind of expansions. It's totally fine if they bake all the small ones together in a bigger box, but for #¤&%&/'s sake! Do NOT include new material!
Gnarghf!

I can't see BoardGameGeek here at work, but I assume what your talking about is a 'new' expansion that is going to really be some previous small bits plus a new bit - Yes?
If so, that's so not good. It's bad enough when bands issue an album, fans rush to buy it, then six months later they issue the 'special edition'! Same thing, same price but loads of extra tracks and a DVD too... GRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Me, I'm not bitter!!!

This new "expansion" includes The Count, River 2, King & Baron, and "Heretics".
I was hoping MJ could get us a better translation of the german wikipedia entry for "Heretics".
From what I understand "Heretics" consists of a few tiles with cult like altar features. They work similarly to Cloisters except they somehow compete with them.
Also, Jay (Rio Grande) has said he'll find a way to get the "Cult" expansion to people without forcing them to rebuy.

Here's how I understand it based on those rough translations...
A "cult place" is very much like a cloister. A follower can be deployed, who is known as a heretic as opposed to a monk. The feature is completed by surrounding it with eight tiles, and nine points are scored for completion just like cloisters. The new game mechanics comes into play when a cloister and a cult place are located adjacent or directly diagonal (anywhere within the nine-point vicinity). Then it becomes a race to complete your feature first. First to complete gets the usual nine points, but the other person gets zero for their efforts and must retrieve their follower. If neither one is able to complete their feature, both earn partial points at the end of the game as per the usual incomplete cloister scoring rules.

Any mention of what happens if they're both completed at the same time?

I get the impression that the player who places the final tile is considered to have completed their feature first, but I'm not certain. That would also leave unanswered who gets the points if some player places the last tile who is not involved in the cloister or cult place. Depending on the outcome, it could be a good strategy move.
Say for example you are building a road which runs beside a cloister and cult place. Each is one tile away from completion, and in this case it is a shared spot. You happen to draw a tile that would fit there and add to your road. By placing the tile, do the other two players split the points, or receive any points at all? Both possibilities are not unlikely.

I would think the appropriate response would be if the person who completes both is the owner of one of the features they get the points. If not, no one gets the points. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.
Also, and correct me if I'm wrong, but since the completed features don't score points their wouldn't be a count opportunity either.

Indeed, if no points are scored then there would not be a count opportunity. It seems a little unfair though, so I'm not feeling very comfortable making the assumption. Add this to the question for HiG list.

Hmm, I have just been reading this thread about Heretics and putting a few thoughts together . . .
1. The new mystery "expansion" is an assembly of the mini expansions 2. K&S is one of those mini expansions 3. K&S contains five tiles for H&G that are no use in Carc 4. They have a wierd face on the back - rather like a Druid - perhaps a "heretic"? 5. SO, I could mix them in with the Carc tiles and use them like heretics as described in this thread . . .
They might also have to have the properties of an Abbey in that they terminate any city or farm adjacent to them . .
Worth a try?
Anyone got other ideas for use of those tiles in Carc rather than in H&G?

Heretic equivalent of an Abbey indeed. Good thinking!
I'm currently using my Scout tiles for makeshift Cathar tiles until I can get my hands on the real deal.
