If this is a minor problem limited to the above then I'd rather fix them on a one-to-one basis, the upgrade to version 2 of the forums (later this year) should fix it anyhow. There is also a mod that recounts all member post counts (just a sql query) I'd have to manually update it for this version of the forums if this turns out to be a larger problem.
