Title: 3 Tile questions Post by: don2712 on June 08, 2009, 12:01:27 am Hi Everyone,
My wife and I are quite new to Carcassonne but we love it and try to play at least one game a night. I have 3 questions probably very silly to the experts but I could not find anything in the forums which perhaps proves how silly they are. We have just started playing with the river 1&2 plus Inns & Cathedrals. Here are the questions. In Inns & Cathedrals there is a tile referenced in the annotated rules as ccrr showing a city and road with an Inn by a lake sandwiched between them, we were unable to decide if this tile formed a barrier to a farm or if the farm passed through. In the River 2 there is a tile ref cscs with 2 cities linked by a bridge or is this just a single city which spans the river? Thirdly, We have found in some cases that a tile with a road fails to align with another road tile so much that instead of connecting correctly the left edge of one road aligns with the right edge of the other when the tiles are abutting squarely. For example on a 3 way junction when you connect the tiles up to another road if you try all 3 directions only 2 will meet correctly. We thought this might be a difference / fault in the tile printing or cutting between the main game and the expansions however, if that were the case and one road was out of alignment then surely the other 2 would also fail to align correctly. Does this mean that there are some instances where roads can only be connected in a very specific configuration? I think this happened on one occasion when we tried to connect a cloister with a road to a ‘T’ junction road section. If it’s a tile fault then that is not a major problem we just want to know that we are not making an incorrect move by laying tiles that do not match properly. Thank you Don Title: Re: 3 Tile questions Post by: meepleater on June 08, 2009, 12:46:14 am 1. I think the farm continues past the inn...
2. Single city going across the river (btw. the field doesn't continue under the bridge, just making sure you know) 3. It is just due to tile printing errors... all roads can join to all others. Title: Re: 3 Tile questions Post by: Novelty on June 08, 2009, 03:41:33 am The farm doesn't end at an inn, it goes around the inn.
The bridge shows up again in King (part of King and Scout), and the clarification is made there regarding how the 2 cities are connected. (A, can you point out to me where does it say the field doesn't continue under the bridge?) If the road goes to an edge, then it can join with another road from the edge of the tile. It doesn't matter if it physically doesn't match. Title: Re: 3 Tile questions Post by: meepleater on June 08, 2009, 03:59:36 am In the FAQ on this site ;D
EDIT: http://carc.mjharper.de/page8/page8.html#Does_this_tile_have_four_farms_ Title: Re: 3 Tile questions Post by: Novelty on June 08, 2009, 09:13:11 am Is that in the CAR? If not, should it be? Matt, can you shed any light on the question in the FAQ?

It would have made a big difference in my last game. It seems a little misleading. The art on the tile makes it appear that it should continue the farm. I think I might just make that a house rule.Title: Re: 3 Tile questions Post by: metoth on June 08, 2009, 11:02:19 am btw. the field doesn't continue under the bridge, just making sure you know That's news to me. I think I might just make that a house rule.We always continue the farm under that bridge tile. "Visually" it doesn't make sense not to continue the farm. I guess we'll just have to make it our house rule too. (We bought some extras, so we actually have 3 copies of this tile I think.) Thought it was, but I can't find it. Judging by the confusion here, I guess it should be in the CAR...Title: Re: 3 Tile questions Post by: Johngee on June 08, 2009, 01:31:32 pm btw. the field doesn't continue under the bridge, just making sure you know That's news to me. We play it that way as well since the artwork is very clear that it one piece of land.

It seems to me like it is that way as well.Title: Re: 3 Tile questions Post by: meepleater on June 09, 2009, 12:56:36 am Toulouse doesn't have the river expansions... does it?
Title: Re: 3 Tile questions Post by: Skull One on June 09, 2009, 11:01:52 am Toulouse does not have the either river expansion.
Title: Re: 3 Tile questions Post by: CKorfmann on June 09, 2009, 11:51:30 am Toulouse does not have the either river expansion. Of course... not sure what I was thinking about....Title: Re: 3 Tile questions Post by: Novelty on June 09, 2009, 12:11:16 pm Maybe you were thinking of the play by email application - I know that does have rivers.
