So who here is into comic book/super hero movies?  I used to read comics when I was a kid, but I got out of it a long time ago.  It's a good thing too because I'd probably be broke!  I just wish I hadn't allowed myself to be swindled out of them by a shady dealer!  I still like all the movies though.

I think you're getting your homonyms mixed up :)

As for Marvel/DC, I chalk myself as a Legion of Superheroes fan, but these days, there's more argument among the fandom and less stories from the publisher about the team.  Oh well.  Having said that, a live action movie featuring the team might be interesting.  Heck, I'd take a live action TV series as well.

Did you know that there are plans in the works for the Avengers as well as The Justice League?  The Avengers are supposedly keeping all the same actors from the Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Thor movies (whoever those last two are).  From what I've read, the JLA movie is supposed to be using all new, young actors though.  I don't think there will be any of the same ones from the stand alone films. 

I remember talking about an X-men movie with my friends back in the day and how cool that would be.  We used to pick out actors for the parts like Arnold for Colossus and Mel Gibson for Wolverine.  He might have done really well in his younger days.  Tina Turner would have been a great Storm around Thunder Dome time.  Of course, Patrick Stewart was a must for Prof. X! 

My all-time favorite super hero movie is Iron Man. That one was great. I'm not really into comics (mostly because I don't have the money to buy them/don't really know where to get them) but I've loved the movies I've seen. Iron Man has it all, though, humor, action, a little romance... it was perfect. "How was the fun-vee?" lol.

I also really, really like Watchmen, but I'm not sure if that's really a "super hero" movie. It was... interesting. I fully intend on reading those graphic novels as soon as I have money to buy them :). the movie was a little confusing and REALLY long, but I loved the artistic-ness of it. Pretty cool.

the very best is Jason... and the most satisfying, it's Jason dispose of Freddy in Jason vs Freddy!!!

I love superhero films. This is my line up (reverse order):

7: Iron Man: An excellent film with a first class performance by Robert Downey Jr.

6: Superman: No one else can be Superman except Christopher Reeve!

5: Superman II: The best of the Superman films.

4: Spider Man: Great family entertainment. Tobey Maguire put Nicholas Hammond's Peter Parker into the shade.

3: The Dark Knight: What can I say, an excellent sequel.

2: Batman Begins: I hated the Michael Keaton version, which started off promising and then went really silly with Nicholson's Joker. The sequels were not much better either.

Leaving, at number 1, it has to be...

1: The Incredible Hulk: My first choice. Much better than Ang Lee's 'Hulk'... I loved the way that the film was cleverly tied in to the TV series (I was a big fan) and reasonable to the comic.

Deatheux you havent got the gist of this thread. They are discussing Comic Book heroes, such as Batman, Superman etc.

If you wish to discuss your heroes, who seem to be from horror and fantasy then I suggest you start another thread. Jason vs Michael Myers !!

So who do you think should play the Thor and Captain America?  I think I like the wrestler Triple H for Thor, but Captain America is tough, it could really be several people.  Perhaps Karl Urban or Matthew Fox.

Triple H can do either Thor or CONAN!(the kings of Kings from WMXXIII)

I think I agree with Canada Steve.  The title of this thread is Super Hero Movies.  I can see Conan maybe, but he's not "super".  Jason is not a hero at all.  He's an evil, undead villian.

Besides Wolverine Origins, what else are we getting this year?  Another Iron Man?  Transformers? When is the next installment of Supermen anyways?  And are we getting the Avengers this year?

No, unfortunately...  Iron Man 2 is in 2010.  Thor, Captain America, and Green Lantern (which is filming in Australia) in 2011, and the Avengers are in 2012.

Green Lantern is getting a movie?  Which lantern are we getting Hal? Guy? Troy?

I'm pretty sure they're starting with Hal Jordan, but I think Kyle Rayner might also be a character, but I'm not sure where I heard that.  I don't think Guy Gardner will be in it.  I don't know who Troy is.

Troy Stewart, the green lantern from the cartoon JLA.  He's African-American.

So I just read that Ryan Reynolds is going to be playing the Green Lantern/Hal Jordan.  I think it's a pretty decent choice.  I wonder if he'll still do Dead Pool?

Batman Begins and Dark Night are definitely the best of the Batman movies, but I would have to say the all around best comic book movies are the Spiderman ones.

Watchmen!!  I've been a fan of the graphic novel for around 17 years. Missed the film at the cinema but bought it on DVD on day of release... so finally can comment on it!

The book is simply fabulous, over the years I've read it about six times. I was very dubious of what would be achieved with the film, but shouldn't have worried.... it's an excellent take on it. I suspect anyone who has not read it will not get the film at all. Can't wait for the long version with the Black Frieghter story cut into it.

So, Iron Man 2 was a success, The Green Hornet, questionably so (I have not seen it).  Captain America and Thor are cast and expected this summer.  Looking forward to those!  The third Transformers movie is on the way (Dark of the Moon, trailer looks good).  Green Lantern is getting close too and the trailer and photos I've seen look good. 

A Spiderman reboot is underway with shooting started.  www.superherohype.com has still photos and video from shooting.  The Superman reboot is back on track too after some litigation.  The part has been cast.  Avengers is on track for next year.

X-Men: First class is in production and looks good and the new Wolverine movie is also commencing.  Batman: Rise of the Dark Knight will begin shooting in the next few months with several new characters cast (Catwoman and Bane).  Looks like it should be very good.

Ryan Reynolds is moving forward with Dead Pool as well as another superhero movie after that.

Well, I've seen Thor, Green Lantern, X-men, and Transformers.  Pretty satisfied with all of them.  Saw a few of them in 3D and it's pretty cool, but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra $.  Some will very likely disagree.  Looking forward to Captain America in a few weeks.

Your review order is hilarious. Not sure if that was intentional. The reviewers literally said the opposite. They said X-Men was the best in the series, Super 8 was great, Thor was okay, and Green Lantern was terrible. Transformers, better than the last movie but still pretty bad.

I saw X-Men First Class and thought it was pretty good. Not great, but definitely better than X-Men 3 (which sucked!). I chose not to see Thor but plan to see Captain America. Green Lantern does nothing for me.

I liked super 8.  I liked the kids and other characters, but didn't really like the alien.  I thought the movie was kind of an E.T./Alien mashup. 

Thor is worth seeing, I think.  Green Lantern was decent.  I hear it is pretty true to the comics.  Transformers is just eye candy.  The stories are always kinda cheesy, but I liked the Apollo tie-in.  I enjoyed X-men, especially the stories and cameos.

Loved Thor, I thought it tied well into the Marvelverse of movies.  I actually quite like X-Men also, maybe as much or more than the original trilogy.  I thought Green Lantern was a fun movie, it was just like the comics.  I just saw Transformers today and I loved it too, easily best of the three movies.  That's the only one I saw in 3D and I liked that aspect also. 

I'm very much looking forward to Captain America.  I think it's going to be pretty good too; I've loved everything I've seen from trailers and online. 

I saw Transformers Tuesday night at midnight and was very impressed. Better than the 2nd for sure, maybe than the 1st (in my opinion). Wish i had seen it in 3d. I like 3d.

Haven't got to see the others yet, though I just watched I Am Number 4. Liked it a lot.

Interestingly enough, much of Super 8 was filmed in Weirton, WV, less than 20 miles from where I live. My sister-in-law was down there when the tanks were parked all over the town. Someone pulled on of them right up to the light and had the barrel pointed at where the cars stop for the day. One thing they did that was very cool, was any businesses that didn't fit in the 70's had their signs covered over with other signs from our area of the Ohio Valley.  Two that they took from right where I live were the Glenmoor Superette and James Locke Jewelers. So if you happen to notice those in the background........ cool little bit of trivia for you.

I thought Thor and Green Lantern were the closest to the essence of the comic genre, and because of that they were the most entertaining for me.

As far as non-stop action you couldn't beat Transformers - it was a blast to watch and Optimus' battle scene at the end capped it perfectly. It's what you had been pulling for the entire movie. Well that and for Bee not to bite it.

I really liked the story line for X-Men, and the cameos were great. Kevin Bacon is really good in a demonic role. I enjoyed all the backstory aspect.

Looking forward to Captain America too.

Believe it or not my wife has been into all of these and has gone to every one with me. An interest in comics is something new for her but she is enjoying them. She's looking forward to Captain America but for her that is second fiddle to Harry.

It was my wife that wanted to see Thor after watching the trailer. I wasn't too bothered by it, but we went to see it and  must say that her choice in movie was a really good one! I was surprised that she suggested a super hero movie as that is not what she usually goes for. It is also her choice to see Captain America, but I doubt she'll come and see The Hobbit next year with me.

So I saw Captain America yesterday and it was pretty good I thought.  If you see it, remember to sit through the credits!

There is a teaser trailer out now for The Dark Knight Rises.  It's pretty interesting if you haven't seen it yet.

CK, do you mean the teaser at the end of your movie was The Dark Knight Rises? If so, that's interesting. Our teaser at the end was something different than that.

What do you think of 'The Amazing Spider Man'? This is the 'reboot' film, scheduled for 2012. Does Spider Man need a 'reboot'? Were you happy with the Raimi's films?

They were OK.  The reboot looks like it will be pretty good.  It's always interesting to see different takes on superheros.  I am disappointed though that Nolin isn't going to make anymore Batman movies. 

Superhero movies can be made and remade forever.  People will always pay to see them.

I hated the Tim Burton Batman film (and the others in this series). When I first saw the opening to the film, it looked promising but, and I might get tons of flak for this, Jack Nicholson's Joker was awful and made the film silly. It didn't get any better in the following films either. However, the 'reboot' Batman films (Nolans) have been absolutely excellent.

It was the same with Hulk. Lee's adaptation was not a good one at all. It probably wasn't Lee's fault, he had to deal with an entire generation growing up to love Bill Bixby and unfortunately the movie goer was expecting to see echoes of the TV series. The 'reboot' was much better and gave nice 'nods' to the TV series.

Yeah, the Batman movies were a little campy, kinda like the old series.  I think that's what they were probably going for.  I think the Avengers' Hulk will be the best, but my favorite Hulk line so far, "don't make me hungry, you won't like me when I'm hungry."  ;D
