Title: Trifecta (was formerly Ménage à Trois) Post by: Novelty on April 25, 2009, 09:30:37 am :o I guess I better start by explaining the title :-[
I was thinking of a tiltle with 3 icons, hence it would require a "3" in the title (or a variant of 3). Trinity was the first idea I had, but I discarded that because it would seen to imply cloisters and abbeys, etc. of which this expansion isn't about. Triad was the next idea, but that has connections to crime and mafia and stuff which would probably better for a thieves expansion, of which this expansion isn't about. Troika followed Triad, but it is just too Russian to be used. Which led me to "What's French for 3?", "Isn't there a French phrase with 3 in it?" ...? Hence Menage a Trois! I'm open to a better title though. Post your suggestions below. Anyways, this expansion is a natural extension of Woodlands and Tributaries. Similar to Whispering Woods, each tile will have a forest segment and a river segment. Unlike Whispering Woods, both the forest segment and the river segment will have an icon. But that's only 2 icons per tile. Those tiles are expected to be in the minority. The idea for this expansion is that most of the tiles (or maybe some of the tiles...) will have 3 icons on the tile, a forest icon (cherry, woodsman guild, chivalry), a river icon (swan, oyster, fishermen guild) and either city pennants (red/yellow or blue/white) or P&D icons (volcano, dragon, knight, magic portal) or city chivalry or inns on roads. I might throw in a couple of wells and stables as well. This will be my next expansion after Mountains. meepleaters' Fountain of Youth will be after this. Edited title to Trifecta. You could still use French, though, but technically your term means "Household of Three" as in three people who have sex with each other and live in the same house. Rather crude for a Carcassonne expansion. Maybe something like "Trois Marques" or "Trois Icônes". Just some suggestions.

Does anyone know what was the name of the old french flag with 3 lilies? The "tricolore" is way too modern to be used though.Title: Re: Ménage à Trois Post by: CKorfmann on April 25, 2009, 12:34:34 pm Here's a few suggestion. My family did some brainstorming...

Definations: Wikipedia: "Trifecta" is a term used to describe any successful or favorable phenomenon or characteristic that comes in threes. I think I'll go with that. Thanks for the brainstorming! Edit (13th May): Added image Edit (18th May): Here's page 1 (http://www.dukenostalgia.com/carc/expansions/tri1.pdf). And yes, you can play a follower to the road on the top left tile and claim 1 point. Edit (23rd May): Done. Moved to public downloads. |
