Title: A use for punched cards?
Post by: CKorfmann on April 06, 2009, 06:06:40 pm
Has anyone found a good use for the leftover cards after you punch the new tiles out?  It seems like they might be useful for something.  I have a lot from my Big Box.

The only thing I used them for was for individual tile scans. That way they were all lined up straight without much fuss. ;D

I always have a hard time throwing those things away as well, seems like such a waste of something that just might come in handy sometime... ::)

LOL I thought I was the only one, I stared at the blanks for god knows how long wondering what I should do with them.

I put them in a plastic bag and stored the bag in a safe place. A little too safe because I can't find them back, so now I have a second bag of punched cards from my more recent purchases.

We threw ours all out.  I never occurred to me that they would be useful for anything.

I have kept all the expansion boxes though even though we store our entire game with all the expansions in the original Carcassonne box.

Let's see, punched cards can be use for making

1. a really big custom tile.  Not very useful.
2. A larger custom scoreboard (e.g. 200 tiles).  However, care needs to be taken with the scoreboard so as not to punch holes through it.
3. Trays for holding meeples :)

Of course, none of that is very useful.

I have a little pile in my cupboard... the ones from Catapult had some thick enough scraps to make up to 7 trade goods from...

Wow, we're a happy little family!  I suggest a contest to see people's best ideas for punched cards.  We could post pictures and vote on the best ones.  Wouldn't that be fun?! :o

Give the punched stock to elementary school teachers. They can use them for tracing projects.

are both ideas for a use of the punched cards which I quite liked the look of. May try that soon.
