As I promised you, I will give you some more information about my tile press/cutter which i bought on eb*y for EUR 55 incl shipping. It has the power of one ton and I had to enlarge the rod, because with the small rod my hand were aching after a few tiles, now with the long one its very easy... (http://tobi12321.to.ohost.de/ccs/press1.JPG) (http://tobi12321.to.ohost.de/ccs/press2.JPG) To get clean cutted tiles it's necessary to use some foampeaces around the cutting figure, but also importand to see the cutting edge itsself. Otherwise you can not see if the edge is matching the tile exactely... The tiles are ok but the other side gets damaged. But thats no problem.. (http://tobi12321.to.ohost.de/ccs/press7.JPG) For the figures I paid EUR 25 + 19% German VAT (for one)... Here you can see some infos how a figure is made. A Laser cuts the lines in the wood and the metal is put in with a hammer... http://lasergrafik.at/stanzwerkzeug_2.html The tiles are smaller than the originals, because with more and more tiles it gets difficulty to find a table that is big enough... So the solution was - to create smaller tiles 8-) Here is my new game... I notice there are less "holes" in this game of Carc. Did the limitations of the playing surface have anything to do with that? I think the less holes result from the numbers of expansions we play with. We play 2 basic games, 1st and 2nd Ex., Family (red heraldics) and the lake (60 tiles). There are not so many possibilities for tiles to not match to other if there are only "farm, way, town, water". And many water-tiles have only farm and water edges. But I produced another 20 lake tiles (end-tiles) to get less holes than now, and we will test the next days... If playing with more expansions ... you know 8) The limitations of the playing surface was only a small problem, we sometimes continued a city or a way on an other place so that there were no limitations in justice... @CKorfmann We play the lake with the following rules: 3 points per tile, 3 points per delphin (like heraldics in a lake), lake with only 2 tiles counts 3, lake with only 2 tiles and ONE delphin counts 4, lake with only 2 tiles and TWO delphins counts 5. Final scoring (unfinished) 1 point for every tile and every delphin. Builder in a lake is possible... We also play it that way with the towns (I think there are 2 different ways to count some people count 2 points per tile even a town only is made of 2 tiles), we count: Town with only 2 tiles counts 2 (1 for every tile), every heraldic in that 2-tile-town counts +1. Great job, and thanks for sharing. I'm very tempted to take something like this on but the cost of the hand press is holding me back. Check eb*y.ca, try 160325181959 or 360143279256 or 270353412080... 160323202829 - this is exactely the one I have... 1/2 ton should be enough if only normal greyboard (2mm / 0.078") should be presees/cutted. A new rod you can get in a construction market for EUR 5 / $8.33cdn, the small metal plate (you really need it!) will be welded by a local metalworker (I also paid EUR 5 for that, in Germany we say "I gave him 5 Euro for coffee" ;D ). The rest is only hard work ;D Do you have a source where to get the cutting figures? (Do you say cutting figures?) Those prices are much better! Obviously they don't include shipping to Canada which will probably add another $100cdn to the total cost. There are local shops that make the cutting figures for about $55 each - here they are called 'rule die' and the process of cutting things out is called 'blanking' (the tile being the blank). I looked around the UK and found a couple fo sites that seel these at similar prices to the US ebay seller without the elevate postage charges. Do you have the specifications for the block you used to press cut the boards? How long do they last; ie, what's the end quality using your method? You mentioned after one outing the tiles were already worn out. Or did they wear out quickly because of the beach/sand/sun/ocean moisture/played a ton? Also, do you happen to know where the HIG sheets can be ordered? Or what's the exact specifications of the paper/carton board being used? I can't navigate the german site very well. Although, now that i write it, i could try google translate...i'll go do that. Super. Thanks! -Chris |
