I think I will start a new thread for the traveling edition I told you yet in the "self made tower thread"... Here you can see again the 21x21mm wood-tiles (0.83"). I sticked velcro tape on the bottom side and built a woodbox with also velcro tape on the ground. (http://tobi12321.to.ohost.de/ccs/reise_ccs.jpg) the box can be opened and put together to a plain field to play on. There are two "expanation plates" to make the field bigger (see on the plane picture with the finished game on it)... I bought two small electrical counters on eb*y (EUR 3 for one) for the counting of the points. Security control at the airport - no problem, after scanning they took a look at my handluggage, but they were not interested on the game or the counters... Then we tested the finished traveling edition the first time (at 38000 feet 8-) )... I'd be afraid to have an hour of tiles get jumbled up.
And one thing that I see as a slight problem: the weight and bulkiness of the box. Makes me wonder if you could print the tiles onto those soft plastic sheets that stick to anything with static electricity. They would only weight a few dg, and you could just use the trays as one continuous playing surface! I'd be afraid to have an hour of tiles get jumbled up. No! ;) Because of the felt they stick very well. It is more a problem to get them away from the ground of the box after a game ;) If you don't play with the aditional plates, you can interrupt the game, put the box together (with the small wooden meeples on it) and continue later without getting only one of the tiles lost. That was important for me, because that sometimes can happen while traveling. And one thing that I see as a slight problem: the weight and bulkiness of the box. Ok, the box is not as small to put it into your jeans pocket ;) But we had it for four times in the handluggage (normal backpack) in the plane and two times in a train and it was no problem - what else is important to have in the handluggage? Maybe a book, some paperstuff, some warm clothes, that does not steal much place in the backpack. I contemplated laminated paper printouts, but I guess those would be much too slippery even on a regular table.... |
