Title: Beer Post by: Wishmaster on March 12, 2009, 07:43:49 pm This'll be interesting... Any Real ale fans here? I realise there's a lot of non-Brits here but I'm intrigued to know who is , who isn't and... possibly more interesting, who hasn't a clue what I'm talking about!! ;D
Title: Re: Beer Post by: Novelty on March 12, 2009, 10:03:09 pm Mmmm... tetley's for a quid in a pub watching the 3 lions on the telly... those were the days.
Title: Re: Beer Post by: Joff on March 13, 2009, 12:38:32 am I'm a Brit, but i'm afraid I detest real ale!
Title: Re: Beer Post by: Bixby on March 13, 2009, 12:42:29 am CAMRA - I wear the shirt. :)
I really like premiere beer. Some of my faves: Rogue Brewing - Juniper Pale Ale Edinburgh Pale Ale Boddington's Guinness Tree Brewing - Hophead Ale Tree Brewing - Midwinter Spiced Ale Lagunitas - Imperial Stout ...and many more. :) Title: Re: Beer Post by: Gantry on March 13, 2009, 02:23:35 am I like beer, as long as it isn't a north american brew. Usually drink Stella, Guiness.
Title: Re: Beer Post by: edmil on March 13, 2009, 04:00:17 am Come on get real:
Fosters lager Melbourne Bitter XXXX Good ol Aussie beer's the only way to go ;D Title: Re: Beer Post by: Whaleyland on March 13, 2009, 06:47:35 am I go two ways with liquor: cheap crappy Alcopops and good hard Rum-based drinks (the harder, the better). I detest beer, lager, and ale as they all taste like something my digestive system regurgitated. Ick. Unfortunately, I've been on a diet for two months now and haven't had a drop of any alcohol since I started. So sad...so sad...
Title: Re: Beer Post by: Novelty on March 13, 2009, 07:55:19 am Poor poor Whaley.
Title: Re: Beer Post by: Bixby on March 13, 2009, 09:00:03 am I like beer, as long as it isn't a north american brew. Usually drink Stella, Guiness. There are truly some amazing MicroBrews in North America. You should check out Tree brewing in your own back yard. Title: Re: Beer Post by: canada steve on March 13, 2009, 12:09:54 pm Give me a SHeppard Neame brew any day opf the week, Spitfire or Bishops Finger are my favs. Although I do like Waggledance and Old Speckled Hen.
Now if you want a good brew I would always go for Sleemans Cream Ale, a fine Canadian brew. Title: Re: Beer Post by: Deatheux on March 13, 2009, 04:29:48 pm Labatt Maximum Ice, Molson Ex(to get hammered!)
Molson Dry(cheap pop) Guinness Title: Re: Beer Post by: meepleater on March 13, 2009, 04:36:36 pm Still in high school... :-\
Title: Re: Beer Post by: Tobias on March 13, 2009, 05:33:22 pm Since beer is probably my number one hobby (even though board gaming is more expensive) I could go on at lenght here. Suffice it to say that Trappist is what I consider the very best beer there is, with Lambic (the whole family) at a second place.
If all of you buy and drink a Westmalle Tripel (sic!) (if you lean toward dry/bitter bewerage) or a La Trappe Quadrupel (if you lean toward somewhat sweeter/lighter) or a Rochefort 10 (if you prefer really sweet/burned) I can almost guarantee that you will not look back. The important stuff is to not cool it too much, and to drink it from a chalice. The last part is very important - I am serious. Now, I do enjoy stouts and porters as well (Guinnes is a waste of time, it is pretty much just brown water), but St. Peter's Cream Stout is a very nice stout, for example. I will stop now ... :) Title: Re: Beer Post by: Bixby on March 14, 2009, 01:07:13 am Tobias:
A beer snow, my kindred brethren :) Actaually, I am not a big fan of many of the Belgian style beers. The English Ales and Porters are pure nectar to me. I attended the Great Canadian Beer Festival in Victoria BC this past year and I thought I was in Heaven. :D Tonight during our poker game I had: Heatseaker (Coconut Curry Ale) Pumpkin Pi Spiced Ale Big Rock Brewing Piced Winter Ale Alexander Keith's Red I love trying varieties of beer and I would reallly like to try the one's you mentioned. I doubt they are available here. :( "Life is short; drink good beer." Title: Re: Beer Post by: koolkat on March 14, 2009, 08:00:55 pm Well, don't get it wrong, but I don't seem to like Brit beer. Portuguese beer is far better.. You got to drive off this little corner and give it a try. Foreign people adore it ... too much!!!! (if you know what I mean) particulary at football (soccer) games...

Any brands in particular I should look for? Title: Re: Beer Post by: mjharper on March 15, 2009, 03:08:07 am Guinness—rare in Germany, so I don't drink it often.
Erdinger Krystal Hefe—there are other brands, but Erdinger is the best. Salvator Starkbier—about 8% and a beautiful golden red ;-) Title: Re: Beer Post by: Wishmaster on March 15, 2009, 06:29:54 pm Oh dear... Oh dear dear dear!!! ;D Stella, fosters, Boddingtions, guiness :bh I said REAL ALE chaps, not fizzy pop!!
A pint of Fullers ESB, the best beer you can buy. Had several excellent pints of Otter on Friday along with Cornwall's finest, St Austell HSD. Someone mentioned Shepherd Neame.. Now there's a real brewery. Anyway, End of April is the Newton Abbot (in Devon, UK) Real Ale festival and I will, as always, be there... Look for the guy Sipping Exmoor Beast and searching out the RCH Firebox!! Title: Re: Beer Post by: Tobias on March 16, 2009, 02:57:06 am A pint of Fullers ESB, the best beer you can buy. ESB is not that exciting. It is rather bland, come to think of it. :P I would say that London Pride is more to my taste (even though it does not reach top 10 either). Ale can be a lot of things, and right now I do prefer IPA. There has been popping up quite afew new brands and I have been testing them as far as I been able to. I had one bottle of XS Imperial Indian Pale Ale (http://www.rogue.com/beers/imperial-india-pale-ale.php), which might be the most bitter beer I have ever tasted. Great stuff! Another one of my favourites right now is St. Peters IPA (http://www.stpetersbrewery.co.uk/store/product.asp?s=uifeyo154002&strParents=&CAT_ID=&P_ID=192), which is a little less bitter, almost smooth, and a perfect after work beer! :) St. Peters is the producer of a really nice cream stout and winter ale as well. The Winter ale is fantastic. Title: Re: Beer Post by: CKorfmann on April 11, 2009, 12:42:14 pm I'm with Joff, I've never had a beer that I actually liked.
Title: Re: Beer Post by: Bixby on April 11, 2009, 05:07:26 pm I'm with Joff, I've never had a beer that I actually liked. You just have not been properly fitted for "your" beer yet. :) it is out there. Title: Re: Beer Post by: Novelty on April 12, 2009, 09:03:42 am There's always Root beer ;l7
Title: Re: Beer Post by: CKorfmann on April 12, 2009, 01:38:31 pm Hey, there you go! Nothing like a good root beer... except maybe a good birch beer, red or white. Ginger beer is not a good option though.
