Title: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on February 26, 2009, 07:07:26 am While it is certainly not a new concept, I thought I would create a post simply for monitoring eBay (and other) listings for the Cathars (Katharer). While most people can just get the equivalent via Cult, Siege, and Creativity, some completists still want the original (me included). Either way, I thought someone should keep up to date with the latest Katharers for sale. Try to format it with the relevent information such as item number, if it ships worldwide, and what time it closes. It it isn't an auction, put the price too. If anyone knows of any, post them here.

I had tried to set up an automated ebay auction search widget for relevant carcassonne items on this site as a service to members, but there were so many unrelated results that it became unmanageable and I abandoned the project. I am no ebay expert although I've been using it periodically since its inception. If anyone else here is an ebay whiz, let us know if an automated system like I described is workable.
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on March 05, 2009, 07:35:22 pm No problem, Gantry. Of course, I can't be checking forever. Once I get my own copy, I probably will be less inspired. Nonetheless, it is a helpful service. eBay probably doesn't mind.

I actually purchased the BBG copy (striked through above) so I now have a copy of the Cathars, although I can't actually receive it until July when I return to the United States from Britain. That being said, I will try to keep on top of this Cathar watch still since it doesn't take too much time out of my day. I'll report on how awesome the tiles (and magazine) are when I return to the US. Cheers!
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Novelty on May 01, 2009, 11:17:57 am Besides BGG and eBay, are there any other sources that this may be sold? Is there a German auction site similar to ebay, but not ebay?
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on May 01, 2009, 11:46:26 am Beats me. Craigslist, which wouldn't be a good format for this anyway, is only really popular in America. Almost every country I've been in, though, has an equivalent. The problem is, it is mostly a local service. eBay seems to be the most universal western auction site, although I guess Yahoo still may have some auctions now and then...mostly then. There could definitely be a German version of BGG, though, so that may be something to look into.
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Novelty on May 01, 2009, 12:01:38 pm Well, I guess we have to use either ebay or BGG for these then. Thanks for volunteering to do the updates! I for one definately appreciate it.
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on May 02, 2009, 11:35:23 am Just one additional note. I compiled the eBay prices for the Katharer for the past three months (hopefully I didn't miss any). The average Katharers price right now is €20.62. The range is €11.05 to €35.50 so there seems to still be a lot of variation. Also, I need to note a new addition:

eBay Auction: Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on June 01, 2009, 06:05:36 am WOW! For whatever reason, the last copy of Katharer sold for a resounding €47.37, which makes it the most valuable sale so far. The average price has now risen to €22.37 but the good news is: there are two available on eBay this week!

New listing! eBay Auction: Previous item still available: eBay Auction: Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on June 20, 2009, 06:00:29 am Sorry, been out of town and busy for the last two weeks. I'm continuing! The good news is, the average prices of Katharer has jumped down to €20.77, almost two Euro since the beginning of June. Now may be the chance to nab yours. Best thing is: there are two listed right now!
New Listings! Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on June 27, 2009, 03:57:13 pm New item listed! Average cost has continued to drop. It's now at €20.61 since March.
eBay Auction: Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on July 08, 2009, 03:30:41 am I must waste a moment on this board to say that I finally received the copy of Cathars which I ordered three months+ ago and it is beautiful. The color is a bit darker than the rest of my tiles, but still match (unlike my Kültstatten tiles which were printed with too much cyan and are therefore completely hideous). I thought I was going to get the almanach too, but it didn't come with my item. I hardly care, though, since I have the tiles. They are lovely, and my completism is satiated (for the moment). Right, on to business.
It seems the average price is definitely on the rise again. New average (since March) is €20.85. It seems the trend is continuing, too, since both the new listings have some bids already. New items listed: eBay Auction: eBay Auction: Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on July 15, 2009, 02:32:05 pm Well, I guess I was wrong. After a poor performance on the July 14th auction, the July 15th hit a record low of €10.62. So it really is possible to get cheap Katharers if you are keeping watch regularly. Heck, even I spent more than that and mine was a steal! The new average for the week is €20.39, which is the lowest yet. Get your Katharer today!

Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on August 14, 2009, 03:51:53 am Wow. I have been slacking on my voluntary job here. I guess the CarcCentral expansion took more of my time than I thought. Well, something is closing in two days, so if anyone wants it bid soon! Oddly, the item that closed on Aug 10th was the last one that sold so I think this seller does 10-day auctions. Current average price since March 2009 is €20.50.

New listing! eBay Auction: Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Novelty on August 26, 2009, 09:36:33 am What's the new average price?
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on August 26, 2009, 12:03:56 pm What's the new average price? lol. I'll put it up later today. The next auction after that above was ended in three hours so I decided to wait until today to post the next one...assuming there is one and there usually is. What I can say is that the average price went up because the last auction closed at 35.50 EUR or higher. Crazy people... IT'S FOUR TILES!!! I think I got my Katharers for $20 including shipping from BGG and even that was higher than I wanted to pay. Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on September 09, 2009, 10:27:24 pm Okay, again I have been slacking, but this time it doesn't matter. For the first time since I began this thread, there is no Katharer Expansion available on eBay! The average price (after the tremendously expensive €35.50 close on 25 Aug) is €20.87, which is about $30.33. That means the price of a set of Katharer is very expensive right now, and probably not going down any time soon.
If you really want it badly, it is still available on BGG. See Carcassonne - Die Katharer (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geekstore.php3?action=viewitem&itemid=136172). Shipping is atrocious, though, so I wouldn't encourage purchasing this copy. Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on October 02, 2009, 03:43:04 pm New Listing! Finally...

Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: thescottishguy on February 14, 2012, 10:56:41 am Hi, I just purchased the Cathars from http://www.spielbox-shop.com/ a couple days ago. total came to about $15 after shipping. I just checked and it looks like they're currently out of stock. I'm mentioning it since I didn't see it before on this thread and they've had em in stock as recently as a few days ago.

Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Khonnor83 on February 14, 2012, 01:57:40 pm also ordered one. I already own the Almanac with tiles inside, but never opened it...now i can use these to play.
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Whaleyland on February 14, 2012, 01:58:20 pm Oh guilty conscience. I just bought a second one (the first I bought on ebay for €18.99 three years ago when I lived in Wales) so that I can resell it in a few months domestically (from the US) to try and make back some money from the original purchase.
I also need to justify buying Spielbox issue 2011/3 in German just so I could get the stupid Stevie card for 7 Wonders. $25 out the door! Hopefully I get some of it back. Luckily the Katharer purchase is limited to 1 because I'm not sure if I could hold back buying more for resale. They just resell so nicely! I hang my head in shame... :-\ Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: CKorfmann on February 14, 2012, 02:29:47 pm Call me silly, but I don't feel the need to buy these. I'm not sure why exactly. I guess I'll settle for my far cheaper Siege tiles that do the same thing.
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: quevy on February 14, 2012, 02:41:16 pm collecting is one of the worst diseases ;)
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Carcking on February 14, 2012, 03:20:07 pm I just placed an order. It went through so I hope that means they have inventory.
I'm very excited. I can't tell you how many times I almost pulled the trigger on a $40 Euro bid on ebay. Just couldn't bring myself to hit the button. Now (I hope) patience has paid off. Now I can't wait! :D Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: meepleater on February 14, 2012, 08:07:40 pm Ordered.

I've got the Siege tiles as well, but I never play with them because of a simple reason. Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Sekim on February 22, 2012, 02:40:14 am Few days ago I was also wondering about the fact that they are still available.
I wonder if these copies were found in some lost box or if these are actually reprinted. Since it's 1 copy per customer only, I'd say it's a lost box. Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Trebuchet on February 22, 2012, 04:48:37 am I'm pretty sure these are new old stock indeed. I compared my 'new' tiles to those still in spielbox almanac and they do not appear to be reprints. Also the excact same cellophane is wrapped around the 4tile sheets :)
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: Scott on March 01, 2012, 12:05:38 am Got the copy of Kathars that I ordered on the BGG marketplace; as usual my impatience got the better of me and I paid more than I could have, but at least I can call my a completist again.
Title: Re: Katharer Watch Post by: jungleboy on January 16, 2013, 03:06:19 pm I bought a copy from the BGG marketplace last week and it arrived today! I paid 25 pounds for an unwrapped version - probably more than what most people pay, but not terrible for something I wanted quite badly. Currently, there is one available at BGG but the asking price is outrageous at $99. A week ago, there were four copies for sale there, so a decent deal might pop up every now and then for those who are patient.
