Title: Shadow over Camelot
Post by: canada steve on February 07, 2009, 02:07:49 am
Played this and Ave Ceaser last night round a friends. Shadow was a suprisingly quick game, all finished in under two hours and was great fun and easy to play.

Ave Ceaser, well thats just pure indulgence, chariot racing round the Circus Maximus, what a laugh.

Oh and even finished off with a quick ariel skirmish with WoW and my four new miniature planes.

I hate to say this here...but..."Shadows Over Camelot" (SoC) with the "Merlyn and Company" expansion has been replacing "Carcassonne" as the standard fair whenever our group of friends gets together. I am the individual who introduce this group to Carc. and a variety of other Euro-Games as an alternative to the "Hand and Foot" card game, which I've been told is similar to "Canasta" - it's just like Ginny Rummy with multiple decks.  Anyway, I still love Carc., but I'm also a Medieval Fantasy / Lord of the Rings / and War gaming enthusiast -- so trying new things in those genre is always a pleasure -- as well as watching my friends grow in their appreciation for games other than the Carc. which in my book is still the gold standard.  With SoC, I think it's the cooperative nature of the mechanics to defeat THE Game that is working against you that has got everyone's attention and interest.  We usually play with only five or six.
