Title: Carcassonne self made tower
Post by: bufferm44 on February 02, 2009, 08:47:19 pm
Hi all,

I'm Tobias from Germany. I found this great community yesterday, very nice stuff here... I think there is much to do the next weeks, printing all the expansions and cutting the tiles ;)

I'd like to show you my self made tower, hope you like it ;-)

Very awesome and certainly worthy of Merit. Thanks for sharing. I may have to try some handiwork.

Great job, certainly keeps everything in order.  I noticed some different tiles in play, are they fan made tiles?

Thanks for all that recognition  :)

It was a long and hard work to build that tower. We play it several times a week... Usually we play with 2 basic games, inns, traders, the "normal" cards from mayor and the self made expansion "the lake" which contains 48 tiles you can get here from the german page http://carcassonne-city.de/ (http://carcassonne-city.de/)

Here is the direct link:

http://carcassonne-city.blogspot.com/2007/04/der-see-von-guido-kmmer-und-carsten.html (http://carcassonne-city.blogspot.com/2007/04/der-see-von-guido-kmmer-und-carsten.html)

The delphins are like the heraldics in the city. But because there are less lake tiles than citys we count it different than the autor invented:
Lake with only 2 tiles brings 3 points, lake with more than 2 tiles brings 3 points for every tile, delphins count also 3 points (all if finished). We also use the builder in the lake.

The other fan made expansion is "the forest", but it looks completely different than yours. I bought it on eb*y but the quality was as worst as could be, so I asked the seller for the original files and promised not to distribute it. He mailed me the the file and I scaned the original cards and copied the forest (have you ever done a selection of a forest in photoshop? :D ) into the new scaned cards.

And after that I found this community, now I will rename "my" forest indo rainforest and "your" forest will be "normal forest" :D:D

I'm also working on a traveling edition, here you can see 21x21mm wood-tiles (0.83"). I plan to stick velcro tape on the bottom side and build a woodbox with also velcro tape on the ground. So we can play for example in the plane on the small table or on the beach with 200 tiles :) In the upper left corner you can see the meeples which were sticked on small felt-.. things :D So you can interrupt a game and continue it later somewhere else..

Tile press/cutter is continued here:

Like the tower and the travel Carcassonne you have certainly done a great job.  I have just about completed a travel version myself using magnetic tiles 2.5mmx2.5mm (1"x1").  I used magnetic Photo paper scanned and reduced the size of the tiles then printed about 15 tiles to each 6x4 sheet.  Works a treat.  Magnetic tile idea was located in bgg forum.

Hi!

I'va also been thinking about magnetic tiles, but I thought that it could be a little bit difficulty geting just one (!) out of the bag and not two or three at one time :D

Here is a picture of the first test on a train trip last week. On the right you can see how we scored the points, but a better way is at work...

And here are some more pictures:

More about that later, but you will like it  ;)

Ok, a small preview..

I think i have to post a little bit in the "how to create..."-thread later :D

Your tile press/cutter - tell me more tell me more must know ;D.

As for the magnetic tiles they don't stick together.  Works a treat.

I still like your tile press/cutter ;D

Wow!  Forest tiles made... with a watermark.  Did you resize the tiles when you added the watermark?  I think the trees looked different to me...

Amazing....fantastic job with the box and the tiles.
I had started on a box as well but I'm not sure mine will come close to this idea.
I need to know more about this tile cutter (blanking) press and die you've made.  Can you post a bit more about this?  pics/process/comparison with regular tiles.  How easy/difficult to register when cutting?
I'm very interested in this.....

Thanks!

Hi!

Greetings from the Caribbean Beach :D

It's very easy, but I had to pay a little bit for it. After my vacations I will tell a little bit more about the cutter, which i bought on eb*y for EUR 55 incl shipping. The difficult thing is to match the register while glueing front and back page to the A4-cards. Cutting the tiles and matching register is easy but takes time. I will post some more photos in a week..

Sunny Greetings

Tobi

Hey Tobi,

Thanks for the reply....and while on holiday's too!

I had a similar idea about making tiles, which is why i'm so interested.  I have a press at work but would just need the rule die (cookie cutter part).
I can image the difficulty in registering the front and back pieces as well as the time to register the final product for cutting (called blanking).

I look forward to seeing more when you return.....have a great holiday!

Cheers,
Chris

It's been said before, but very impressive!  I very much like the tower.  Especially how nicely everything fits in the drawers.

I noticed in the close up shots of the forest tiles that they had a tree watermark.  I didn't see them before.  Did someone add them?

Did someone add them?

Yes - me  ;D

I produced so many tiles - so I can sort them correctly after a game...

I also had to arrange all the tiles new for saving paper and time while sticking and pressing the tiles...

Very nice.  If I'd read the post, I wouldn't have had to ask that question!   :bk
