Title: Started on the tiles
Post by: edmil on January 23, 2009, 02:18:44 am
As an aside I started making the Fisherman and Fisherman hut tiles today. Most are ready for gluing.

I am using 3 layers - top layer is 90gsm white embossed linen paper - middle is 2mm card and bottom is 80gsm standard paper for the backing. ( one set of card is slightly small so I bought some heavier paper for the bottom layer to compensate.

I'm using a spray adhesive that is used for mounting Artwork and am coating the top layer with a gloss Art Varnish.

Must say guys the Artwork for the tiles is absolutely brilliant (Novelty I presume is responsible).
Not only that I have waded through just about everything I site and am astounded by the work that has been put it from the start of a variation through to it's completion.

Keep up the great work

I hope that I can add something to the site at some point.

One question:

I don't see much use of the dice in any of the variations is there a tendency to steer away from using a dice.

I ask because I have an idea for a variant that may be easier using a dice although it can be accomplished with cards as well.

Well, I tend to stay away from dice. But, my first draft of Invasion of Catharism did use a dice to determine whether the city became besieged or not. It was a bit clumsy, so I adapted the rules into what we have now.

Having said that, if you have an idea for a variant that can accomplish something using dice, then go for it. If the cards do exactly the same job as the dice, there is no point making cards to replace dice as dice are easier to get hold of (and probably neater).

It's not just all me.  The posters on this board has been pretty good with providing scans and bits and pieces that is required for the making of the tiles.  I would say there's a lot of other people than just me on the tiles I make.

Sometimes the comments and the critiques are a bit harsh, but I take those with the attitude that they only want what's best for the tile and the game, so I put aside my personal (and usually bruised) feelings and soldier on to provide the best out there.  Hopefully, the end results speaks for themselves.

I wanted a "randomiser" for Dragon Hunters, but was "persuaded" not to use dice.  So I came up with a "draw x tiles and see what you got" thing that works even better IMO since it doesn't require extra stuff like dice.

But if you feel that you must use dice, then go for it.  With a bit more thinking though, the dice can probably be "designed out" of the idea.

Also, please do feel free to contribute.  That is what (or at least one of the reasons that) Gantry and Matt started this site.
