Title: Geocaching Post by: Bixby on January 20, 2009, 07:09:22 pm The "Anything Else" board looked so sad and forlorn without a single thread... :)
...so I thought I would post about another hobby of mine! www.geocaching.com Anyone else geocache? I have found 240 so far. Great outdoors family friendly activity. Title: Re: Geocaching Post by: edmil on January 20, 2009, 09:12:03 pm G'day Bixby
Noticed you were a Geocacher in the introduction thread. I have been Geocaching since 2005. Maddie and I are pushing 1130 finds here in Australia. Just had holidays in the Blue Mountain Area ended up with 75 finds for the 2 weeks. Love Geocaching gets us outdoors a fair bit and there are some great people to meet. We combine geocaching with other outdoor activities like 4x4ing, Metal/Gold detecting and of course general trips around the country side. Where do you hail from? Title: Re: Geocaching Post by: Scott on January 20, 2009, 10:01:26 pm I gave it a try once, but I just don't have the patience for it. The only reason I even got one find was because the cache owner gave me a ton of hints (it was in front of his house). I made a pitiful attempt at another nearby cache but couldn't find anything. Felt like a complete dork and went home.

Cool beans. You area true veteran. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. I have found caches in Canada, USA, and Scotland. Some very interesting places and some very interesting finds. I imagine you have seen some very clever hides and travel bugs. cache on my friend, cache on... Scott: Sorry to hear about your experience. Sounds like the early caches you went after happen to be frustrating. That is not indicative of the hobby. I have had a few that were very hard to find, but tons more that were quite rewarding. Title: Re: Geocaching Post by: Scott on January 21, 2009, 12:55:46 am I live in Saskatchewan My deepest condolences to you. ;DTitle: Re: Geocaching Post by: Bixby on January 21, 2009, 08:37:06 am I live in Saskatchewan My deepest condolences to you. ;DNice. :) I have lived in four provinces... ...this one... ...is the easiest to draw. :D Title: Re: Geocaching Post by: jackdaddyt on January 22, 2009, 09:34:41 pm The first geocache I found was in August of 2003.
I quit caching once I returned to college--too many other activities taking too much time to geocache. I do miss it, though. Title: Re: Geocaching Post by: Gantry on February 28, 2009, 11:15:04 pm Have thought many times about doing it. I travel a fair bit and love the outdoors. Perhaps I will try it this summer.
Title: Re: Geocaching Post by: edmil on March 01, 2009, 03:17:42 am Do give it a try. It can become very addictive, but it can take you to some amazing places. Maddie and I have only cached in Australia but if we get the opportunity to travel OS you can be sure it will be part of our sight seeing.
Title: Re: Geocaching Post by: Carbon on March 02, 2009, 02:35:31 am Hey - I'm also a cacher.
Carbon Hunter - done about 400 in a few places. Really love it as I travel a bit for work - allows me to see interesting parts of the world Title: Re: Geocaching Post by: Bixby on March 04, 2009, 08:47:16 am Very Cool Carbon.
I should get a couple of Meeple Travel bugs going. That would be fun to track. :) |
