I got the Card game version of Ticket to Ride and found it a bit too simplistic.  I have held off on buying the Dice version because I do not want to be disappointed again.  Has anyone got this, and would you recommend it to a fan of TtR?

I have looked at getting it, but after reading several reviews, I have decided against getting it. I think TtR works well as it is.

Well, the original TtR works, but that hasn't stopped them from bring out Europe, Marklin, Swiss and Nordic.  Now they have the cardgame and the dice game.  I was a bit disappointed with the cardgame as I said above and was just wondering about the dice game.  I think I'll pass on this as well then.

The dice game is an expansion for the boardgame as you can figure out at BGG. The boardgame is fabulous. We can't compare it to the cardgame. You need to try. I own TTR:E wich brings tunnels, ferries and stations, that earlier versions such as TTR:USA don't have...

So, what did you think of it?  Should I buy it for my Uncle?

If he is an avid TTR fan, then I believe yes.  It adds a tatical feel to the game.  I say that because ticket drawing is random, even if you pull tickets from the 5 shown slots.  But with the dice you can pick how you want to use them and re-roll once if needed.  I found the games I have played so far to be the same lenght once you are used to using the dice.

Oh...so did I.  It sounds like rolling the dice replaces drawing the cards.  And we just got used to using the 1910 Expansion with the larger (standard playing card size) cards.  Maybe next Christmas I can treat myself to TtR Europe or Marklin, but by then DoW will probably have a TtR Russia ans/or TtR China expansion as well.

I prefer the original version versus dice, but if your gaming group either likes dice or is a lot more cutthroat, then dice is the way to go.

Edit: Has DoW announced a China or Russia version?

LOL ... I was just making a joke- those are the first two huge countries that are dependent on their railroads that I thought of; I could have just as easily said TtR: Africa and/or TtR: Australia, but hey we could always start a humor, hehehe; - )
