As there are more than six meeple colours available, can more than six players play the same game if there is a reasonable amount of tiles in play?
Yesterday I played with seven players total with almost two hundred tiles. Is it legal or should it be considered house rules?

Yes, we have 10 colors and often play that many -- house rule.  It requires most/all of the expansions or at least multiple (base) sets.  I picked up my extra meeples at meeplepeople.com (http://www.meeplepeople.com/products.php?cat=44).  Their sets include 10 basic meeples, 1 super, 1 trader, and 1 pig.  They do not have the mayor expansion's meeples yet (edit: or the tower pieces).  It's nice for replacement parts or just extra colors - I added purple, orange, brown and nude (tan).

(edit2: I see know that the actually have sets with 10, in the past you had to buy them individually and when I bought 8 they'd send me 10...weird but awesome)

On eBay I got ALL meeples in whte and orange, including A&M's.

Did you search "meeple"?  I can't seem to find anything on ebay - I'd love to get my hands on the missing mayor/barn/wagon pieces.

Better go buy them soon.  He's closing his ebay shop this year, or so people have been telling me.

Adding more players is doable, but you'll need to decide a few minor things, like whether to increase the number of times the dragon moves each turn, how many towers pieces each player gets, etc.

That won't be an issue if one is not playing with The Tower or Princess and Dragon!

I would suggest Joff's fan-made Dual Dragon expansion and Black Tower expansion if playing with the Tower & Princess & Dragon.  It would mean getting a second copy of both, but I think it is worth it :)

Yes, Novelty, you're right but what Scott meant (I think) is that we should adapt some rules or parameters to the bigger number of players. He just mentioned an example. I think this could be an interesting subject of discussion...

I'm not sure what else needs to be done besides tower pieces and dragon moves.  And if one is not playing with the tower or P&D then that's not an issue.

One suggestion would be more meeples, but, the thing about Carc is that it's a game of meeple management.  I think the current number is a good number.  A&M adds 3 pieces which sort of dilutes the meeple management part.  I mean, previous, before A&M, we were always running out of meeples in our games.  Then A&M came along and thanks to the Abbey & the 3 new pieces, running out of meeples were not a problem.  Increasing the total number of meeples for more players doesn't seem to make sense.  Reducing it though, might not make some people happy, so the best solution there is to stick with the rules for the number of meeples.

I think this is beginning to sound like a variant of some sort.  Perhaps it could be moved to the appropriate forum?

So besides meeple number, what else is there if one is playing with more than 6 meeples?  As stated by Scott, only Tower and maybe P&D would have some trouble for more than 6 players from all the existing official expansions.  I think all the fan-made expansions I've been involved with can be scaled up to more than 6 players rather easily.

Well I can't figure out anything for the moment. I'll have to "practise" on 7+ players play... But that sounds a good idea. If you want to move this thread to Variants, please do. Just don't forget to mention me... :)

Actually, the "meeple-seller" in germany is closing his shop already in february.
I just ordered the white and orange full sets, and I was promised a "surprise" in the package.

That is sad.  Has anyone contacted meeplepeople.com about A&M meeples?  If not, I will send one off in hopes we receive a new source for those parts.

Email sent, I inquired about A&M meeples and tower pieces.  I am not going to hold my breath though, there is not a lot of incentive for them to reply (especially if they have not done so in the past).

The people at meeplepeople.com and the German ebay guy must be getting the parts direct from the manufacturer.  If anyone here has a good relationship with the German fellow (or any relationship at all, for that matter), it might be worth asking for his supplier?  After all, he is closing up shop and has no reason to keep that information private any longer.  Just a thought.

I find it hard to believe that the manufacturer is not known. Is this the case?

I have attempted to find out on numerous occasions who exactly is the company that manufactures the wooden pieces. I only know a couple of facts: 1) The game pieces are made in Germany. 2) The factory supplies pieces for lots of different 'euro' games. They certainly make pieces for Carcassonne (and spin-offs), Settlers of Catan, Stone Age, Agricola. My guess is that HiG use them for all their games, and I guess that would go for Kosmos also.

Hmm... how about someone sending an email to Jay of RGG to ask him about the meeples?  Perhaps he will reply.  He has replied in the past about a number of things and he is quite nice to deal with from my experience asking him about CS&C.  Any volunteers?

From what I've heard, the german "meeple-seller" is working for the manufacturer but his selling is somewhat on the "side" and not official, so that's why there is an amount of secrecy here. It might not be a good idea to dig that deep into this.

I don't have anything bookmarked because of phishing on homebanking. I clear everything as soon as I close my browser. I've been robbed before. Thankfully, my bank got my money back. Besides, I know all these "important" addresses by heart. Even better, right? I even know my Social Security, ID and driver's license numbers by heart... :)
