Title: Carcassonne, the castle question
Post by: Novelty on January 07, 2009, 10:35:01 pm
The rules state that:
"Any castle feature (path, tower, house, or court) may be placed next to the castle wall."

Is it legal to play a tile next to the castle wall without it being connected to the start tile or an existing tile?  There is no proviso in that statement that it must be connected either to a start tile or to an existing tile, although 2 bullet points prior tells a different story.

Of course not. The rules are very explicit about this. I quote:

"Each further tile placed [...] must be placed with one side completely next to a start place along the castle wall or with at least one side completely next to a previously placed tile".

It is crystal clear. Any feature can be placed next to the castle wall - as long as the demands in the above paragraph is met. Only if you want to misinterpret could you reach another conclusion.

Or if you are not very familiar with the rules, e.g. when playing for the first time.  Or if you are 12 years old.  I was taught how to play this game by a 12 year old who insisted that it was possible to play the tile next to a castle wall and not connect it to a starting piece or an existing piece.

I thought you were a tad bit older than 12?
