Title: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: neebah on January 05, 2009, 01:00:38 pm So I originally bought the Big Box of Carcassone and have added all the expansions to it. Do the the unfortunate nature of the rules I even had to insert the Completely annotated rulebook to it as well. Anyways what's funny about the Big Box is that it doesn't have slots available for the River Tiles. As I added Cathars, GQ11, Abbey and Mayor and the Catapult I integrated all of the tiles into the Big Box for easy transport. The tower works well for holding these tiles. Since these tiles do not comes with their own little boxes (like count, river 2, and so forth) I decided to make my own to make storage easier. The tiles slide around too much if I put them in the tower as is. I've attached the boxes to print (cardstock works well, but don't use regular paper to make these). Included are 4 tile box (for The Cathars) 12 tile for GQ11, The River, and the Catapult Tiles and an 18 tile box for Abbey and Mayor. If you sort out the abbey tiles with the individual colored meeples then you should only need a 12-tile for Abbey. Files are in Office 2007 word format. Cut and fold the little square. They help hold the box together with either elmer's glue or double sided tape. If you want to put pictures on it that option is certainly available as well.

Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: neebah on January 05, 2009, 02:32:16 pm Bigger as in able to hold more tiles or is there a problem printing out the sheets. I had to convert a word document to PDF in order to post. I'm wondering if that might be the problem.
Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: koolkat on January 05, 2009, 02:35:33 pm Holding more tiles. The fan-made forest expansion has 150 tiles. You know what I mean...
Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: neebah on January 05, 2009, 02:40:24 pm I don't think the format of this box is suitable for 150 tiles. It would have to be completely redesigned in order to work this out.
Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: neebah on January 05, 2009, 02:44:59 pm You might consider using multiple boxes. The 18 tile box will probably hold 20.
7 of those each holding 20 and a 12 tile box holding 10 might hold all of your 150 tiles. You are certainly welcome to redesign the boxes if you wish. Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: Gantry on January 05, 2009, 03:06:36 pm Very handy boxes neebah, thanks for that!
Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: Laserschwert on January 05, 2009, 05:05:55 pm I've planned on making wooden tile-boxes, but unfortunately I'm not at all a craftsman, so my first try looked a little crooked. But I think the concept isn't the worst. The measurements of a single box is exactly the size of the score-board (18cm x 26cm) with a height of 5cm, while all "walls" and "dividers" have a thickness of 0.5cm (the top and bottom pieces, as well as the "buffers" on the front - to allow for the lid to close - have a thickness of 0.2cm).
Here's the concept: (http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/3376/boxjo8.jpg) And here are my plans on filling three boxes (including 2 base-games and 2 "Inns & Cathedrals): (http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/9362/box1rp5.jpg) (http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/5337/box2va0.jpg) (http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/2588/box3tn2.jpg) Edit: Looks like I've messed up with the text for "An Apple a Day", which of course has only 6 tiles instead of 12. Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: Joff on January 05, 2009, 05:22:10 pm That really is a brilliant concept...
Now, if only I were a good craftsman ;) Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: neebah on January 05, 2009, 05:29:15 pm Where can I find these fan made expansions that you've included in your box and how can I find blank tiles to print them on. I know two come in cult siege and creativity, but I don't want to buy multiple copies of that to achieve my own sets.

Well, all the fan-made expansions can be downloaded right from this site (either check the download-section on the main page or the threads in the "Variant Workshop"-forum). Blank tiles can be ordered from http://www.hans-im-glueck.de/, although I don't know if they take orders from outside of Germany. Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: Novelty on January 05, 2009, 06:27:11 pm Wow, it gives me a nice feeling to see the layout for the expansions in that box :)
BTW, all Carcassonne Central Expansions that have been finished can be found at: http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=49&Itemid=62 That page contains all the expansions and the links to download them which means you don't have to hunt down every single tread in the Variants Workshop for the downloads. Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: Novelty on January 05, 2009, 07:17:02 pm Apologies for the double post, but you can also get henry sunset's tuckboxes at

Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: neebah on January 05, 2009, 07:36:22 pm Thanks. I wish I had found these before. It would have saved a lot of work.
Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: Novelty on January 05, 2009, 07:44:44 pm Thanks. I wish I had found these before. It would have saved a lot of work. I sent the author of those files asking him if I could make them available here too. No reply so far.Neebah, would you mind if I made your files available for public download at http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=47&Itemid=60 ? I would say that you made them of course. Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: Scott on January 06, 2009, 07:02:24 pm Apologies for the double post, but you can also get henry sunset's tuckboxes at http://boardgamegeek.com/file/info/31131 I'll second that. His tuckboxes are excellent. Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: koolkat on January 08, 2009, 02:46:38 pm Yeah! I'm using them!
Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: edmil on January 23, 2009, 02:16:05 am After having all the boxes of expansions around for oooh about 28 days after we bought the game. I decided I wanted everything in in one neat package. I saw the Carcassonne box in one shop at about $140 (Aussie dollars) far too much I thought.
Today I bought a wooden Art/paint Box with two layers in it. I used the top layer for Tiles and have stored all the expansions and currently have room for about another 200 tiles. The bottom layer stores all the meeples and extras. The box could be improved upon by rearranging some of the compartments but for the moment it will do. Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: wicke on January 23, 2009, 03:46:23 am I have also been using Henry Sunsets tuckboxes but after the arrival of the wonderful wax printer (that my girlfriend has got) I got slightly annoyed that they don't have the correct depth.
So now I have re-done the boxes for all expansions and also all fan-made expansions that I like. So my Carcassonne Deluxe Storage Box: (http://www.serieborsen.se/images/spel/carc_storage_box.jpg) is almost full of tiles/tileboxes now (and some tokens). I have been forced to put all the meeples in another box. There are plenty of meeples now as well. Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: hester on January 23, 2009, 09:02:22 am I'm also designing my own tuckboxes, but since I tend to be a perfectionist I haven't gotten very far yet. Only the base set is finished, and I have the basic shape and colors for all the others. I still need to add the graphics and do tile scans, and all that will take some time.
Here's a preview of the base set boxes (36 tiles each); if anyone is interested I can provide the larger files for printing at 300 dpi. The writing is all in German though! ;) (http://www.geocities.com/hester4418/carcassonne/tuckbox_36breit_Grundspiel1.jpg) (http://www.geocities.com/hester4418/carcassonne/tuckbox_36breit_Grundspiel2.jpg) Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: neebah on January 23, 2009, 02:40:30 pm Thanks. Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: Whaleyland on March 10, 2009, 06:33:07 pm Oooh, like something that would fit perfectly on top in the space for the scoreboard that could hold all the remaining sets (A&M, CS&C, Catapult, Katharer, KingCount&Consort [or everything it includes], River I, and GQ11). That would be so awesome! Currently, I just store everything in the tower, but then I have to remove the pieces from the tower each time I play the game.
Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: meepleater on March 18, 2009, 05:03:09 am If someone is designing boxes, one to hold both seige and cathar (8 tiles), it would be useful...

That would be so awesome! Currently, I just store everything in the tower, but then I have to remove the pieces from the tower each time I play the game. Actually I was thinking about something like this, just way bigger. http://files.boardgamegeek.com/file/download/20nuo752se/Tile_Organizer_Insert_v2a4.pdf (http://files.boardgamegeek.com/file/download/20nuo752se/Tile_Organizer_Insert_v2a4.pdf) I used this one for a while but with all the expansions I outgrew it. A big box version of this would suffice. :) Title: Re: Tile Boxes Self Made Post by: CKorfmann on April 09, 2009, 11:44:52 pm I agree with the Big Box idea. I don't know about the first one, but #2 is a huge box. I have little doubt that you could fit all existing tiles in it and all your meeples, (assuming you use more than one layer).
