Title: Sources of Historical Inspiration
Post by: Gantry on December 15, 2008, 05:58:56 pm
When I changed the forum ranks, I did a little bit of research on what some appropriate historical French social ranks and titles might be.  What I ended up with isn't exactly historically accurate as it spans the ages, but I thought that my research might come in handy for Variant and Expansion developers.

If you have any additions, please feel free to add the links to this thread.

Nobility and Titles in France (http://www.heraldica.org/topics/france/noblesse.htm) - where I got most of the forum ranks from
France in the Middle Ages (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval_France)
Feudalism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feudalism)
History of Feudalism (http://www.historyworld.net/wrldhis/PlainTextHistories.asp?historyid=ac35)
Manorialism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manorialism)

Did you change the ranks again?  I notice I'm now no longer a Noble but a Duke...

you're at a new higher rank now - you've reached a new level where instead of yellow meeples, you have red builders, congrats on being the 1st

:o I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not that I'm the first  ::)  I got Duke when I passes 1250 posts, so looking at the other members, it stands to say that:

0-19 Vagabond
20-99 Cottager
100-249 Villein
250-749 Freeman
750-999 Vassal
1000-1249 Nobleman
1250-1499 Duke
1500-1749 Count
1750-1999 Marquis
2000-?? ?? Viscount
?? ??-?? ?? Baron
?? ??-?? ?? Chatelain

Edit: Finally got the starting number for Viscount!

substitute Vagabond for Villager, and you have the first third of the rankings

Wow! This forum is really getting medieval. Great! I suggest to change the green merit arrow into a green sparrow... :)

Are these titles still valid?
In the UK Cottaging (being a cottager) means having gay sex in public toilets  :o
I am now terrified of making too many posts as that is my next level  :-[

Well, when you get there, make as many posts as you can to get promoted to Villein?

Edit: Viscount starts with post counts of 2000.
