Title: Merry Men Post by: Novelty on October 17, 2008, 01:04:31 am This will be the King equivalent to Forest. The current plan is that the expansion should contain:
1 Merry Men Camp (the jousting tournament tile and rules, but for forests) 1 Outlaw person (the King equivalent) 10 forest tiles (featuring cliffs and other terrain features that separate forests) An old version of the Merry Men camp is shown below. I realised the stockade was too small, so I increased the size for the new version, but that is not shown below. (http://www.dukenostalgia.com/junk/merrymencamp.jpg) I'll probably do this expansion next then move on to Cappy's Apple tiles. Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Novelty on October 17, 2008, 08:53:46 am Cliffs... 1st attempt to draw them... what do you think? Can you tell that the top forest is separated from the right forest especially near the top right corner?

Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Joff on October 18, 2008, 11:24:24 am Does the Merry Men camp have any perculiar rules or is it a direct take on my Jousting Tournament?
Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Novelty on October 18, 2008, 05:23:57 pm Joff, at this stage I really have no idea. I presume it'll almost be very similar (if not the same, but for forests) to the Jousting Tournament so as to avoid confusion.
Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Scott on October 18, 2008, 07:34:57 pm What are people competing for? To become the merriest of all men? ;D
I wish I was better versed in the Robin Hood stories; I'm not aware of any competitions between the merry men. I think we'll have to cheat with the story a bit here and make it an archery competition. Archery factors very prominently into the more modern Robin Hood stories, though not in the originals. Archery is also time period appropriate. Need to make sure there is an archery target in the merry men's camp on the tile artwork. Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Novelty on October 18, 2008, 07:51:24 pm Scott, Robin fought Little John on the bridge to become the leader or something like that. Archery was one of the other options I was thinking about.
Regarding the tiles, I guess if it looks separated after you've been told, well, then a clarification in the rules would be sufficient. I'll draw the "sky bridge" some time next week. It's difficult to draw something yet make it fit into the Carc tiles art. And I found this: (http://th27.deviantart.com/images/300W/i/2003/48/4/d/Robin_Hood_colors.jpg) at http://silverkitty000.deviantart.com/art/Robin-Hood-colors-3997378 I've sent an email to the artist asking for permission to use it. No response yet. I would dread drawing one myself :( Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Joff on October 19, 2008, 01:26:53 am The archery competition concept would be a nice addition (you have mentioned archery once before) and this would be a great way to add it in. Call it 'Archery Tournament' instead of 'Jousting Tournament'!!!
Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Scott on October 19, 2008, 09:07:17 am I think it would be easier to modify the jousting rules for archery.
Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Cappy on October 19, 2008, 11:59:30 am I do believe Joff is merely suggesting name and terminology change, but that Archery Tournament still use Jousting rules.
Novelty, your cliffs are truly a wonder -- achieving the effect you did in Carc's art style doesn't look at all easy. However, the division is not blatantly obvious, which it should be for gameplay. Consider the silly monk icon on Cathars -- there's only one reason he's there. I would suggest that for gamers more interested in the game and not the graphics, you need to beef up the division somehow. Darkening the green cliffs? Flipping the brown ones? Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Scott on October 19, 2008, 07:43:59 pm I'd like the archery target to have the following color scheme (more accurate), as opposed to the color scheme from the archery tokens in the Catapult expansion (not accurate):

(http://www.dukenostalgia.com/junk/newcliff.jpg) And I made these bridges :) (http://www.dukenostalgia.com/junk/testbridge.jpg) Comments welcomed! Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Novelty on October 20, 2008, 07:14:53 am The draft tiles (http://www.dukenostalgia.com/junk/merrymen0.pdf). The outlaw tile is greyed out because I haven't yet had permission to use the artwork.
The very draft rules (http://www.dukenostalgia.com/junk/merrymenrules.pdf). Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Joff on October 20, 2008, 07:24:11 am I know they are only your draft rules, but you have 'jousting ring' instead of 'brawling ring' (under the Merry Men Camp instructions - 3rd paragraph, second line).
Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Novelty on October 20, 2008, 07:25:29 am Thanks! I will correct under my personal copy for the time being.
I used brawling instead of archery so that archery can be used for farms instead. Edit: draft rules updated (same link as above) Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Scott on October 20, 2008, 12:34:40 pm I presume then that archery will be a one-tile expansion similar to jousting. Were you planning on making it eventually? Expecting someone else to pick it up and run with it?
Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Novelty on October 20, 2008, 05:55:16 pm If someone else wants to take it up, they are free to do so. If not, I'll put it in my queue for expansions ;D
Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Cappy on October 22, 2008, 09:58:41 pm I made the separation on the top right side of the cliff clearer: Sweet. I think it rocks now!And I made these bridges :) Doubly sweet! Truly.Title: Re: Merry Men Post by: Novelty on October 24, 2008, 10:10:46 pm I finally got permission from Sylvia Baker for the Robin Hood image. I'm finalising this and calling it complete!
