So other than the obvious (subscription or ebay) where might one acquire a games quarterly magazine?  Any suggestions.  ???

You could try the local game shop. I ordered it online though - from a Swedish online game shop.

A few back copies are available on thoughthammer and on funagain games sites.  I hope this doesn't violate any rules of the forum by mentioning them.

Also, when I subscribed to GQ they sent me two back issues...one of which had the mini-expansion (#11) and one with an expansion for Settlers of Catan (#10)

that's alright, I'd also mention Fun Games Cafe (http://www.fungamescafe.com), just drop them a line asking about it, they do ship internationally

Just read on BGG that GQ is no more - apparently it has ceased production.  Looks like we may not get Kathars after all.

The GQ website doesnt mention anything about it, but then it doesnt say much about anything really.

If it is finished thats a real shame.

Glad we bought The Cathars when we did then.

When was GQ13 supposed to be released?

Was supposed to be released in May 2007.

Jay from Rio Grande posted on BGG that, due to a licensing issue with Spielbox, he will not be able to distribute Die Katherer in the U.S.  So it seems the official Cathars expansion remains elusive. For anyone who wants to add this expansion to their collection by making their own tiles, here's the best image i've found: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/fileinfo.php?fileid=11376 (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/fileinfo.php?fileid=11376)

But no point ordering it online Hypnotoad seeing as it appears to be finished.

There are copies of The Cathars along with the Almanac available on Ebay, thats where we got our copy from.

Here's a link to the press release as posted on BGG:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/1434974 (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/article/1434974)

I guess this one line says it all:
Games Quarterly Magazine's publication has ceased.

That stinks. I guess our group will have to resort to other means of getting our hands on The Cathars.

Maybe next time there's a release in Germany I can place a bulk order or something... But that's no help right now.  :(

This does stink. And with the prices on Ebay etc. being high-way robbery I guess I'll go without this for a while still.

Bleh.

A local game store here still has a couple of copies of GQ with the Carc 12 piece expansion in it.  Maybe I should buy them - (in fact I should get at least one as I don't have that expansion yet) - the extra set may be worth big money in the future and I could sell it on ebay as well!

[As an aside, I think NZ is one of the only countries where ebay isn't prevalent - we had a smart young guy here who set up his own auction website (called "Trademe") before ebay got a foothold - he built it up and it became so popular that a big media corporation bought it a year or so ago for NZ$700 million!! (about US$500 million)]

Just sent a third email to GQ, have fired one each week for three weeks, and always get the same out of office response. So I think it would be fair to say they are out of business  :(

There is a post on Board Game Geek which I think says that another magazine "Knucklebones" is honouring GQ subscriptions.  Might be of some assistance to those who had subscribed to GQ - by all accounts it is a better magazine.
