Title: How to handle uneven number of tiles per player?
Post by: leuzingers on October 05, 2008, 02:49:16 pm
Simple question, but I can't find the answer.

If we're playing standard with 72 tiles, but we're playing with 3 players, since there's 71 player tiles (minus the starting piece) does the third player get gipped by not having as many tile plays as the first two players? Or do you leave the last 2 tiles out of the game?

Thanks in advance!

To answer your question: There is no rule regarding this, which is why you can't find the answer! If you want an even number of turns thenwith: 72 basic tiles, you should remove 2 randomly selected ones. This leaves 23 tiles per player and the starting tile. This would be how you should play for even turns.

Mind you it really does not matter or affect the game that much, but if you want to get 'competition' style playing then by all means remove the tiles.

However, if you use Traders and Builders, the builder, due to the double-turn, makes it impossible for each player to get an even number of turns without having to keep fine track of them.

Hope this helps.

There are variants where you can randomly select X tiles from all the tiles you have and play with that, but as Joff pointed out, if you are playing with the builder, there is no way to guarantee an equal number of tiles for everyone to play.

Leuzingers, I agree with Joff. There are lot of games where some players have one more item than others, and people don't complaint. Because people play lots of rounds and who gets one less tile this game will get one more on next game.
Don't worry, there are lots of tiles in the game even if you play with just the base set. You won't even note the difference!
