Title: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on September 18, 2008, 07:09:00 am I'm thinking of getting the carcassonne box from http://www.carcassonnebox.com/ and I'm just wondering if anyone has any reviews for the box, especially post A&M and KC&C. Does "everything" now fit into the box?

I was hoping someone here has a box so that I could direct more questions at... but since Deatheux chased Paulman away, I guess I'll have to find someone else.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Joff on September 18, 2008, 07:23:47 am I was thinking about getting one a few months ago. I would imagine it will be the same though, as this new eBay one has images which appear to show the box has not changed internally:

Is this official merchandise or just 'junk'? ;) Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on September 18, 2008, 07:30:27 am Digging around, the site (http://www.carcassonnebox.com/The_Box_Inside.htm) says that only 10 expansions will fit in the box. Doesn't say anything about A&M, KC&C or the upcoming CS&C.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Joff on September 18, 2008, 07:32:14 am I would imagine that other expansions would have to be placed inside the Tower tile holder :(
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on September 18, 2008, 07:34:56 am Well, I don't know... there seems quite a bit of space left in the tiles area. What I'm wondering is if the 3x6 extra meeples from A&M fits into the bag as well.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: djwurm on September 18, 2008, 12:10:28 pm man that sucker is expensive... 60 bucks plus shipping from England?? no way...
Maybe if someone contacted them and got a group buy going and he can lower the price on them I would order 2. Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Deatheux on September 18, 2008, 06:55:49 pm for now, the carcassonne big box fits ALL TILES but 10 maybe 12 more tiles and it will be overloaded!!
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Scott on September 18, 2008, 07:54:19 pm Click further and you will see there is room for 70 additional tiles:
http://www.carcassonnebox.com/The_Box_Details.htm (http://www.carcassonnebox.com/The_Box_Details.htm) I would like to get one, but it would probably be too expensive. Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on September 19, 2008, 01:06:22 am Thanks Scott! So, A&M = 6additional Abbey tiles + 12 tiles
KC&C = 5 shrine tiles or Spielbox = 5 shrine tiles CS&C will have 12 tiles 70 - 12 - 5 - 12 = 41 slots spare so it should be able to take a few more expansions worth of tiles (before one has to use the space in the tower for storage). I am still wondering if there is space (in the bags and in the box) for the extra meeples from A&M... Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Joff on September 20, 2008, 01:57:15 am So, are you gonna get it then??? :)
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on September 20, 2008, 02:56:41 am I'm getting more inclined to get it, but I think I'll wait until after Das Katapult to find out if I'll need the extra room for a working catapult :) :) :)
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Gantry on September 25, 2008, 02:47:52 am Can I post this link? Is this official merchandise or just 'junk'? ;) Although tongue-in-cheek, I think I should address that it is fine to post anything Carc-related, even if not official as long as it is not advertised as such. Our rules about commercial advertising are meant to discourage Viagra, land for sale in Florida, magic beans, etc. Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Joff on September 25, 2008, 03:02:13 am Interesting... actually I have some magic beans for sale...
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on September 25, 2008, 04:02:06 am Interesting... actually I have some magic beans for sale... Does it come on a tile with a road or a river? ;DTitle: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Joff on September 25, 2008, 05:58:11 am Does it come on a tile with a road or a river? ;D Perhaps you could design a special tile which includes a magic beanstalk... we can then play a new variant called 'The Giant of Carcassonne'. In it meeples disappear up a giant magic beanstalk for no apparent reason. They must remain out of play for 3 turns searching around for the Giant that lives at the top of the beanstalk. After the 3rd turn out of play the meeple is returned to the players supply. What's the point? I've no idea! I don't know what goes on at the top of magic beanstalks! Perhaps the Giant could chase them down and take prisoner other meeples? Or maybe a new set of tiles could be made depicting the top of the magic beanstalk... we could call it 'Cloud Cuckoo Land'. Of course, this expansion can only be played together with 'The Princess and the Dragon' ...which is another fairy land setting where magic beanstalks and giants would feel at home :) Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on October 20, 2008, 11:54:26 am So, are you gonna get it then??? :) I was just looking at this today... more like drooling over it. As I recently received my pink, purple, white and orange meeples from meeple people, my Carc box is filled to overflowing.I saw that they have designed a new box for Catan. I wonder if they will do the same to include the Catapult... Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Scott on October 20, 2008, 12:28:09 pm Here's the news item regarding the new Catan box in English:
http://www.carcassonnebox.com/News.htm (http://www.carcassonnebox.com/News.htm) Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on October 21, 2008, 03:15:24 am Too bad Carc won't fit in a Catan box... or at least not as well. I'm still wondering if they will be making a new box after Catapult. I guess I should keep my eyes open until then.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Scott on October 21, 2008, 09:20:35 am Or send them an email and ask?
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on October 21, 2008, 09:44:40 am Well, they won't know until they get Catapult I guess, so I doubt there's any point asking at this time.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: koolkat on October 23, 2008, 07:12:19 pm So, I'm getting all messed up. Should I buy it or not?
I can't worry about expansions to come.If I think like that, I'll never buy that or an expanded box (even for a good catapult reason...). Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on October 23, 2008, 07:14:55 pm It's a big investment, which is why I'm being cautious. But I don't think anyone can tell you whether you should buy it or not.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Tobias on October 24, 2008, 11:17:08 am One can always build one oneself. Well - at least in theory!
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: koolkat on October 24, 2008, 09:04:51 pm Yes, Tobias. You've got a point there. I think I'll build it.
What I was really asking if it was worth the money buying it... Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on October 24, 2008, 09:25:58 pm It depends on what's it's worth to you. I can't build anything, so I have to buy it.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Vulch on June 03, 2009, 05:34:25 am Novelty
Did you (or anyone else) end up buying one of these boxes? I am thinking of getting one (based in UK so shipping costs not so much of a burden), was wondering if all my expansions will fit in? Carcassonne with River I Inns and Cathedrals Traders and Builders King and Scout The Count of Carcassonne The Cathars The Princess and The Dragon The River II The Tower The GQ11 expansion Abbey and Mayor Cult, Siege and Creativity NB: I have no intention of buying the Catapult expansion. Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on June 04, 2009, 01:42:59 am I haven't bought the box and I was wondering if the meeples from A&M would fit into the slot for meeples. I decided to buy the Big Box 2 instead of this box since I wanted the watermark on the tiles, which would mean I'd get lots of spare tiles for customs, as well as the big box to hold everything (including the catapult and the tower) in.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Vulch on June 04, 2009, 10:02:08 am I haven't bought the box and I was wondering if the meeples from A&M would fit into the slot for meeples. I decided to buy the Big Box 2 instead of this box since I wanted the watermark on the tiles, which would mean I'd get lots of spare tiles for customs, as well as the big box to hold everything (including the catapult and the tower) in. There seems to be a "space" for meeples in the supplied velvet bags, can't see the few additions for A&M would make much dfference? Am I right in thinking that Big Box 2 doesn't have space in it for "The Tower" or have you removed the insert? I can see where you are coming from though as the Carcassonne Box and Big Box 2 are not far off the same price. However I have everything in the Big Box 2 (with watermarks) and dont need spare tiles as I only play the official expansions. Thanks Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: CKorfmann on June 04, 2009, 10:58:52 am I fit my tower in the Big Box 2 by taking it apart. The instructions say that they don't recommend doing so and I can see why because it's now longer as sturdy as when it was new, but I don't think it will be a problem. There is also room on top of the insert to put stacks of tiles. I have banded up my extra sets and keep them on top. It's the perfect height for tuck boxes. There is plenty of room on the sides for extra figures. I've probably gotten double the amount of official figures to make fan-mades without tiles and keep them nicely in the spaces provided.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on June 05, 2009, 04:26:52 am I removed the insert of the BB2. I'd beware with the A&M meeples though, because all 18 of them do take up quite a bit of space.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Vulch on June 05, 2009, 09:07:24 am Thanks for the input.
On reflection I am finding it very hard to stop myself ordering the Carcassonne Box. If I do go ahead and order it I will let you know how I get on. Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Scott on June 06, 2009, 09:33:00 am The wooden Carc box was designed to have room for more tiles, but fitting the catapult is the unknown.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Novelty on June 06, 2009, 02:41:44 pm I will let you know how I get on. Please do. Hopefully, you'll have a camera as well so that we can see pictures of how everything fits into the box!Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Vulch on June 06, 2009, 03:05:44 pm Fathers Day soon, I keep leaving big hints around the house ;)
I am NEVER going to buy the catapult ! Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Vulch on June 18, 2009, 04:32:00 am I will let you know how I get on. Please do. Hopefully, you'll have a camera as well so that we can see pictures of how everything fits into the box!Sold some stuff on eBay and then found a web site in France selling the box, that takes paypal, so effectively it hasn't cost me anything. (Well that's how I am justifying it to the wife ;)). Will try to get a decent photo once it arrives and I have decanted all my expansions into it. Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Vulch on June 26, 2009, 07:59:16 am Box arrived couple of days ago and its gorgeous :-*
Can fit all my expansions in quite easily. Now that they are all in, I just want to spend some time shuffling them around until I get them where I want them. I had to place two small sets of tiles (12 each) inside the tower, but these will probably be tiles I dont use often. Also a bag of trade counters and the Carc bag went into the tower. The box seems to have been upgraded from the one shown on their website. It now has stainless steel metal bars fitted in the hinges (also stainless steel) to stop you opening the box too far and damaging it. On their website it has a ribbon to do this. I also got 1 large bag and 9 small bags with coloured ties (green, yellow, grey, black, blue, red, white, purple, orange). I can fit 6 bags in the slot provided with all meeples, pig, barn etc in each bag. Tower pieces go in big bag with count and dragon. I have an insert diagram on which I have put whats in each slot and what "can" fit in each slot so you can see how much space there is. Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Vulch on June 26, 2009, 08:00:28 am I have an insert diagram on which I have put whats in each slot and what "can" fit in each slot so you can see how much space there is. Here it is: Descriptions = number of expansion tiles and number of tiles that "can" fit in that slot. i.e.Tower 18/21 means the tower expansion has 18 tiles, but you could fit 21 tiles in the slot I have put it in. PS: if the new expansion is good, not sure if "a wheel" will fit in? Assuming there is an actual wheel? There is room for more "stuff" inside the tower though. Of course if its anything like the catapult I wont be buying it anyway! I can fit 6 bags in the slot provided with all meeples, pig, barn etc in each bag. Thank you for that info.Edit: Congrats on your first merit point :) Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Vulch on June 29, 2009, 11:01:48 am Moved few bits round to make it all fit better:

For those in the UK, Board Game Extras will shortly be carrying the Carcassonne Box for £45 (including delivery), as well as the usual Carcassonne supplies. They stock extra player sets in various colours: Purple, Pink, Orange, Brown, White and Natural, as well as various Carcassonne expansions and spin off games. As well as Carcassonne supplies they also stock many popular board games and carry the Mayday range of Euro card sleeves, card boxes and resource tokens (especially for Agricola, Settlers of Catan, Stone Age, etc.). Visit their site (home page): http://www.boardgameextras.co.uk/ (http://www.boardgameextras.co.uk/) I have used Board Game Extras several times and can vouch for their great service. Andrew, the manager, is very helpful and would be glad to assist with any requirements you might have. Edit: Andrew has kindly agreed to give Carcassonne Central users a 5% discount this week. Simply use the link at the top of this post. Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: CKorfmann on September 01, 2009, 02:04:46 pm That looks like a nice site with a lot to offer. Too bad no one seems to be able to get ahold of the A&M meeples. I plan on buying all 6 sets when they are available.
Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Vulch on September 02, 2009, 07:01:20 am For those in the UK, Board Game Extras will shortly be carrying the Carcassonne Box I love my Carcassonne Box and would highly recommend it. Being a bit of a collector, it's just nice to have everything in one place; and the box itself is looovely. Sometimes I just get it off the shelf and stroke it :-* I'm off for a cold shower now :o Title: Re: Carcassonne box Post by: Scott on December 25, 2009, 10:22:35 am I wandered around to the Carc Box web site today and noticed that they have listed the Catapult as fitting in the box, but the box doesn't appear to be changed. There's no pictures showing the Catapult in the box. Also, I think they are out of stock right now.
