Title: Found a strategy guide Post by: Tobias on February 05, 2008, 03:00:54 pm What do you think about this: http://www.snigel.nu/?p=701 ?
Personally I found it worth a read. Funny how I've never really thought about the relative scoring in C, I do it all the time in other games ... Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Scott on February 05, 2008, 06:03:19 pm I skimmed through it quickly, and I agree with most of what I saw, but it seemed really wordy.
Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Joff on February 06, 2008, 02:06:12 am I have seen this before... it's on my hard drive... somewhere ???
It's well worth a read, as Tobias said, but I like David Peterson's guide. Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: richardbrand on February 06, 2008, 10:38:01 am Good read, thank you. Mainly reinforced my own findings, but gave me a few new things to consider too.
Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Gantry on February 06, 2008, 11:56:03 am I talked to Olle (the author of that document), he said we could link to it for the moment and possibly put it on the site. I'll have it up just as soon as I get the go-ahead, or at least a link to it in our Articles section.
Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Jambo on July 09, 2008, 06:35:44 am That's a good guide, particularly with respect to games where there are more than 2 players! Up to this point, I'd always played offensively, and the notion of sharing projects was interesting.
Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Novelty on November 18, 2008, 09:02:25 pm I wonder if the author has any plans to update this for the newer expansions... does anyone know?
Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: koolkat on November 19, 2008, 07:08:17 pm Dunno, but that would be great. I think we should be opening some new topics on that matter.
Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Novelty on November 19, 2008, 08:04:17 pm koolkat, you can always start a thread in this forum for any strategy that you would like to share. This thread though is about the strategy guide linked to in the first post by Tobias. (To get back on the topic) My question still stands - does anyone know if the author has plans to update it?

Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Gantry on December 07, 2008, 06:04:10 pm I wonder if the author has any plans to update this for the newer expansions... does anyone know? Response: Quote Hello! Nice to hear from you and nice that you found my guide useful/interesting. However, an expanded version is not a priority right now, simply because I do not play Carcassonne. The reason is not that I have abandoned the game because I think it is not interesting, but because I have moved to Taiwan recently and have no one to play with. I know there are placed to play online, such as Asobrain, but I have so far found these online services insufficient. That being said, I still like the game and I inspired, I can probably produce more writings of interest. However, an advanced guide would be impossible to write, simply because it would be too big. As you know, the guide I have already written covered quite a few pages and I only consider it the basics. If I just expanded on the same subject, the project would spin out of control very fast. What I can do is to expand on certain issues or discuss certain elements of the game. For instance, somebody would post questions or comments on my guide, I would probably be able to find the time and inspiration to answer. The questions may of course involve requests to expand on a specific topic. As for updating the guide, I am not sure what you mean. As far as I am concerned, it contains what a basic guide should contain. I know there are some spelling and grammar mistakes in there (bear with me, English is not my native language), but I suppose that is not what you mean. Conclusion: Expansion in general is not likely, but elaboration on specific topics or clarification, examples or suchlike is not impossible. I hope this answers your questions. Again, thank you for your interest. Even though I wrote the guide mainly for my own sake, it still feels good to know that others benefit from it. Please give my thanks to your fellow Carcassonne players! Best regards, Olle Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Novelty on December 16, 2008, 05:53:27 am I wonder if he would allow us to host the article here as well...

Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Gantry on December 19, 2008, 03:54:21 pm Quote Hello, I prefer to keep such elaborate and fairly original material on my own website, but you are of course free to link to it as you see fit. Your response has also reawakened an urge to play, so perhaps I will register and post in your forum. I was especially enticed by the puzzle suggestion by one of your users. Executed correctly, such a thing would be very interesting indeed and perhaps I could contribute in some way. Constructing such a puzzle once a week and discuss various possibilities of play and so forth; I think it would be an excellent source for discussions about tactics and strategy. Cheers, Olle One thing I should mention is that I would like us to respect copyright issues, not just in a legal sense, but authors' requests as well so that we do the right thing. As with the German variants that disappeared from carc.de, I think it is incumbent upon is to preserve Carcassonne material insofar as much as we can, else link to where people can obtain it. We've been turned down before in our request to host material and have always respected the author's wishes. Hopefully Olle will sign up on the forums, and contribute more of his good works to the community. Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: koolkat on December 19, 2008, 04:00:18 pm Right Gantry. The game is fantastic. Let's keep the players fantastic too.

They will be made available for public downloads once the website administrator creates the page for them :)As far as I know, at least two of the expansions are available elsewhere. Knecht und Bettelmönch, better known as Labourer and Mendicant has been updated to Friar and Farmhand and then to Cleric and Serf, the latter of which is available on the downloads (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=49&Itemid=62) page. 11 of the mehrfluss tiles are available at Martin Storbeck's site as described by Purity here (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/forum/index.php?topic=608.0). Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Joff on January 09, 2009, 11:05:06 pm I have obtained David Peterson's permission to host his Strategy Guide at CC also. Dave, as some of you might know, is a member of CC and I have found his strategy guide quite useful. It is formatted in the usual way, although the CC logo is not present on this file.
The Carcassonne Strategy Guide (v1.1) (http://www.john-warren.co.uk/carcassonne/files/strategyguide.pdf) Title: Re: Found a strategy guide Post by: Novelty on January 10, 2009, 02:05:47 am OK, you can now download it from the Public Downloads (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=47&Itemid=60) page.
