I talked with HiG - Georg Wild and Christof Tisch - about the questions.

In the last weeks Obervet03 and I were working a lot. The next coming CAR 6.2 has all the clarifications.

The white screen is the correctable problem. Don't log in using your netbook. Then do this:

Type in your Username and Password
Click "Login"
From the white screen, hit the back button on your browser
Display will read "Welcome, Guest"
Click "Home"
Display will read "Hello, (Your name)"

The same thing works after posting, replying, or sending messages. It is a huge pain, but it works until Gantry or Scott can fix the forum. Apparently they both are having RL problems. Ugh, though understandable. If you're auto-logged into CarcCentral, you can't use this technique. I have yet to find out how to get that problem resolved. Kettlefish discovered the above solution.

OK, I will impatiently wait for 6.2 :)

P.S. My auto-login works all the time. I use address http://carcassonnecentral.com/forum/index.php (http://carcassonnecentral.com/forum/index.php) and directly go to forums list logged in without white screen. However, when sending messages and replying white screen is still the issue.
(Windows 7, Opera 12).

I know, you can come in here in the forum, but many others can't or they do not know how.

We German have now our own forum. We didn't like to wait so long. And at that forum we have all the news about the next coming CAR 6.2. And there you can find the finished CAR 6.1.

I was at the fan-meeting at Burg Konradsheim (West-Germany).
There was the author Klaus-Juergen Wrede, too.
We talked together and he gave the fans autographs.

For almost a year I have my own forum about Carcassonne. It is not so popular, but the goal of making my website and forum was to popularize Carcassonne in my country. Now I have a partnership with local Carcassonne distributor and we regularly organize Carcassonne evenings, where everybody can come and play Carcassonne with many expansions with other players.
What I am trying to say: my forum is based on SMF too, but v2.0.2 (latest at the moment). I haven't got any experience in upgrading forum engine, but my profession is system administrator, so I can offer some help to CarcassonneCentral forum administrators in forum engine upgrading.

Every time when I like to post something, I first copy the text (for example in a word.doc) and then I choose the "Post" button.
If I forget this, than sometimes all the text is gone and I can write all again.

The white screen - the backfile button - (ignore what I see) - the "HOME" button - and than I look if the post is there here in the forum.

Whaleyland - can't you post anything?

I got in...on Firefox! I'm auto-logged in on Safari but can't post anything there, and I can't log in on Chrome for some reason. Yay Firefox for letting me in!!!

If you ignore the errors (white screen, log in failed) only back button (and again ignore what you see) and than the HOME button....

The weekend is gone - and we have here the same problems.

I wouldn't count on major changes within a short amount of time. Maybe not even by the end of the year. Obviously, the issues with the forum aren't easy to handle, so I guess we should be happy with what we've got. After all .... this is better than how it was during the last 1 or 2 month  ;)

Today I tested again if I can write a PM - and it's working.
I can write a PM now.
There is no Verification Code, that is great.

I am glad to see that the forum is back up in some condition. I miss you guys  ;D

our talk about the Mini Dispatches is gone and so many other postings. I hope, that Gantry could bring back some of the informations.

The Downloads - all what I know is that only the older Downloads are working.

The download module is broken and has been disabled. We'll have one again after the forums are fixed and upgraded.

Please note that any posts created at this time may be lost when the forum is finally fixed and upgraded.

I've been e-mailing with Gantry and he has been slightly delayed getting back from a business trip.

I've been having trouble logging in also. The usual solution doesn't always work; I was getting a message that my password was incorrect. Seems to have resolved itself, for now anyway.

Yes, the same problem had Matt on Tuesday.
I have the same problem sometimes, too.
But I go out of the internet, then I go again in the internet
and I log in - sometimes this forum doesn't know that the "log in" button is a "log in" button.
Then you see the ERROR.
What could help is follows:
-fill in: your Name
-fill in: your Password

Please don't click at the "log in" button with the mouseclick
You need only the ENTER Space at the keyboard.

Then you see the typical problems.

Today I had the problem with the log in again.

I deleted the 2 from .....login2.

The ghost is sometimes here in the forum very active -
like the ghosts in old houses...

Any chance we could get an official word on the status and timeframe for the forum upgrade? I know this is all volunteer work, but these efforts could certainly benefit from some more proactive communications. A quarter of a year has gone by and members have left, other sites are starting to gain traction from a Carcassonne standpoint, and still no sign that there is a plan and timeframe to stabilize the site.

certainly in regards to the fanspan download section i have to agree on that, always a big treat for CC fans visiting carcassonne central i reckon, was for me anyway. Just wanted to let know the technicians I have all the expansions that have appeared for download on this site in the past, stacked on a mac, so if at any time needed in case of a general loss due to the forum upgrade, i can provide a PDF back-up of all finished expansions in case that's needed.  ;)

I too have them all stacked on my computer...available for the asking.

I have experience in running an SMF site. If there is interest and we have all of the files I could register a domain and setup a website for the Carcassonne Community. I am reluctant to do this without a certain level of interest though. I am guessing that Gantry's heart is just not into this site anymore. It is unfortunate, but likely a reality.

I posted many clarifications of the rules (between me an HiG - Georg Wild, and people from the HiG-Chat)  more than 100 posts during 3 and a half month (from June to the middle of Oct 2012). It's all gone. Perhaps Gantry could repair something.
I don't know.

The last time - in the middle of Oct - Gantry posted that he likes to work at the forum. A half an hour later the forum was gone.
I had only the choice to copy a few of the posts.

And we need the posts for the CAR (from CAR 6.1 to CAR 6.2).
The story about the fairy, the dispaches, the minis, the Wind Roses, the Gingerbread Man - all the post are gone. I don't say that they are lost. I hope that Gantry has some paticular updates of the postings.

And then obervet03 and I were again working from the "beginning" with the CAR.
We hadn't a forum and we hadn't all the important information.
All the time we were working at the CAR by email.

Ouch! That is horrible. I hope it all can be recovered. That's a terrible loss.

I posted more than 106 posts (date 13.10.2012) but all the other people here were posting, too.
I think there are more than 300 - 400 posts gone.
(all from you, Scott, obervet03, MrNumbers, Skull One......)

For example the posts about the correction reading "CAR 6.0 to CAR 6.1" - that were more than 70 posts there.

If the information about the new posts get lost again here in the forum, that doesn't matter for me.

I remember...I didn't realize we had lost so much. I hope Gantry or someone is able to recover it. Especially the CAR discussions and the Turn Order discussions...

My computer seems to be inconsistent. I can't post on Safari or log out (though the system says I'm logged in). On Chrome, I get an "incorrect password" error. On Firefox, I have mixed results, such as now. The forum just needs to get upgraded or replaced. People aren't going to go out of their way to log in unless they already have a vested interest in getting into the site.

hm... I can log in (and post) each time _without_ any problems since months (using firefox 17.0.1 right now and older versions before)!

Today I wrote to all three admins emails.

I had the second time a special problem with CarcC.
That has nothing to do with the typical problems here.

But this problem is to much important.
More information follows.

I'll wait for answers from the admins.

The special problem:

The Forum changes identity even though you are not logged in.
This identity can affect also other users.
No one knows whether the foreign identity can change also the posts
from the original user.

Just wanted to let you all know that the new forums are coming along just fine. Basically they are a mirror image of this one.
At some point in the near future, I will be locking these forums as read-only if I'm able. So this will force everyone to register on the new forums (using their exact same username and email address as this one) to be able to post.

I don't have a specific timeline, but I am continuing to work on it for a few more hours tonight. The forums are replicated, the member groups are done. - Mini 1-6 (7) - for example: The Ferries, The Mage & Witch...
- Wind Roses (that is what Whaleyland told)
- Winter-Edition
- The Gingerbread Man

My idea is to put all the special expansions from Spielbox in a separate block
- The Tunnels
- The Cathars

And at the moment the list is from a-z. I think it's better:
- basic game + big extensions
- all the minis (HiG)
- all the minis (Spielbox...)
- BigBox 1-4
- special editions (Wheel of fortune, 10years-edition...)
- Stand alone games (Hunters & Gatherers, The Winter-Edition....)

1. To be honest ... I hope the new CarcCentral forum won't look like the maik63 forum with all the separate sections for each and every expansion. I love the way this 'old' CarcCentral is put together. With the 'General' section and 'The Workshop' and all. Especially the Workship is what (in my opinion) made CarcCentral what it is today and why people always are coming back.

2. I think there's no need to have a perfect forum when it goes online. Certain sections or changes can always be made by moderators. Gantry has done a great job so far with the old CarcCentral and now putting a lot of effort into the new forum. To keep the work intensity as low as possible, I think it's best to only concentrate on the things which are really important now to get it up and running. I'm patient .... but unfortunately a lot of others aint.

I just checked the new forum for the first time and see that you kept the exact same arrangement of topics. That's just the way I love it  {up

The CarcC is our beloved CarcassonneCentral Forum and not the German Carcassonne-Forum.
When you look at your profile here at CarC  - you can say
what extension you have or what you want or no interest.

My post there were only to look at it, that we don't forgive any
expansion from the world of Carcassonne. That's all.

Now I see what you meant with those expansions in the user profile  ;)
I used that option once I think. I wouldn't mind if it came back .... nor if it wouldn't.

I changed a little bit my last post.

The German Carcassonne-Forum is a special one.
I will put the whole HiG-Chat in the forum -
the questions and answers separated to each of the expansions
(I have already finished 2012 an 2011 - the work for 2010-2008 is open)

In the past HiG had a separate Carcassonne Homepage with the
FAQ. The FAQ were separated in each of the Carcassonne expansions.
That is what I do there. That is it what HiG like to have, too - I called with
Moritz Brunnhofer some time ago about this.
