Title: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on July 29, 2011, 01:15:19 am So who are the Munchkin players on the site? I'm thinking about getting into it, but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions?
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Bixby on July 29, 2011, 01:29:02 am Sorry, can't help you here. I had Munchkin Quest and the expansion and traded it away. I guess I am not a big fan of Steve Jackson games.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Whaleyland on July 29, 2011, 11:45:06 am Same here. Was never a roleplayer so most of the jokes went right over my head. I have the base game in Arizona but have only played it twice. It did little for me.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Deatheux on August 04, 2011, 10:14:52 pm CK, i am a HUGE(not by my tallness & weight), A HUGE fan of munchkin, i own ALL core sets + expansion + some promos, i pre-order EVERYTHING from the W23 as soon as i see new stuff coming out, if you have any questions about that game i'm your buddé!!
the SJG forums is ^_^pretty too ¨o¨ Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on August 04, 2011, 10:45:16 pm That's great because I had a few questions. I'd like to start playing, but I'm not sure what all to get. I asked the question on BGG and got some good answers though.
Anyway, I was thinking of getting the base game and going from there with a few of the expansions. I'm not too interested in the spin-offs at this point. Are there some expansions that are a must or some that are not important? I'll probably definitely get the expansions that add races/classes. Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Purity on August 05, 2011, 05:36:43 am ...i pre-order EVERYTHING from the W23 as soon as i see new stuff coming out... ...means you might have most of the english promocards twice, right? :-) that might come in handy for me as i have all the german promocards and am now on the search for the english ones :-) Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Deatheux on August 05, 2011, 08:47:09 am That's great because I had a few questions. Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: MrBlu on August 07, 2011, 10:25:45 am I'm the same here; I have just about everything you can buy in the store. I pick and choose the W23 exclusives. I scored tons of stuff at Gen Con this weekend, the new jumbo dice, the Conan booster pack, and the new Santa monsters booster pack, oh and Munchkin Zombies 2. Good stuff.
Korff, I would say start with what your favorite is. There is a pirate themed set, a "star wars-ish" set, comic book set, Cthulhu, monster movie, kung fu, spy, western and then fantasy. They all play the same and interact so you don't HAVE to buy one before the other. Fantasy is the most popular with the most stuff, followed by Cthulhu, but Munking Zombies was just release. If you were going to start, pick the one that most appeals to you and just buy the core set. If you pick fantasy, I would buy the deluxe edition. I saw it at Gen Con but I'm not sure if it is out for public yet. If you buy any of the fantasy sets, you HAVE to make sure they are the color versions; which they will say. They went back and re-released the entire fantasy set with full color art and the most updated set of rules. The other sets got updated, but it was only a few cards here or there. Also, the sweet spot for us seems to be three players, maybe four. Five really starts dragging and six people can take lots of time. The basics are easy, but the strategy takes time. I also agree that the SJG games board is awesome. I've met Andrew and he's great. Him and Erik answer all the rules questions on the board and are pretty nice guys. It is a SUPER nice resource. Also, I'm pretty sure BGG has a generaly disdain for Munchkin so that board might be biased on their answers...lol... Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on August 07, 2011, 02:44:33 pm Thanks for the info. Someone else suggested the Deluxe set. Can you tell me what's in there?
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: MrBlu on August 07, 2011, 04:07:23 pm It has all of the cards the same as the normal set. It has a set of six Munchkin Pawns. There's a card to denote what sex you are; there are curses in the game that make you change sex and have a one time negative effect on combat. There is a game board with it (that I don't have grumble grumble) and it is used as a scoring track from level 1 to level 10. It also has places to set the door and treasure draw pile and discard piles. If I were new, I'd get it before the normal set. The pawns are about $6 by themselves, and the original set is like $25 so that's $31, and I think the deluxe set should be $35 so you're getting the board and cheat sheets for roughly $4.

I can't wait for that to come out...it has two new races! They also had a play test version of The Good, The Bad 2. Both of those will be out next year. Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on August 07, 2011, 08:37:06 pm Next year? I guess I didn't realize that. I thought they'd be out soon.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Deatheux on August 08, 2011, 11:22:19 am what is the powers of the centaur and the lizard guy??
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: MrBlu on August 08, 2011, 03:46:06 pm I didn't really read them. I was in line for Steve Jackson while they were playing GB2 and they actually played 8 yesterday and I wasn't there. Andrew offered to show me the cards on Friday but I could never catch him when he wasn't busy. It was chaotic.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Deatheux on August 08, 2011, 04:35:57 pm i guess so!! this booth have must been very very busy!!
lucky you to be there! Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: MrBlu on August 08, 2011, 05:21:34 pm It was swamped. I waited each day to have Steve Jackson sign some of my Munchkin stuff. I did watch a game of Axe Cop too. They had a capsule machine where you put in $1 and got swag. One of my prizes was the game Frag, Gold Edition and then I got the German version of Munchkin Booty, lots of other odds and ends. They were swamped non stop, but good for them. I ended up getting three-four official rules cards; two from Steve J. and two from Andrew; that was cool! This was my best Gen Con ever; I had a blast.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Deatheux on August 08, 2011, 11:33:24 pm stop i'm jealous, and angry!!!
good job! Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: MrBlu on August 09, 2011, 04:16:29 pm Lol...ok, I'll stop.
Who are you on the Munchkin board? I'm "Blu" there too. I haven't posted much in awhile. Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on August 09, 2011, 05:08:46 pm Just found out that my FLGS has a weekly Munchkin game on Friday nights. They've been cancelling a lot of those lately, so hopefully I can make this week. Really looking forward to it.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: MrBlu on August 09, 2011, 06:16:04 pm Well that would be great! You can play with three and it's not too bad at all. I don't really have a FLGS...the closest games or comics stores are at least 45 minutes away. Good luck!
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Deatheux on August 09, 2011, 09:24:43 pm Lol...ok, I'll stop. Who are you on the Munchkin board? I'm "Blu" there too. I haven't posted much in awhile. Of course my nick in SJG forums is Deatheux! who else can be me!!? Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on August 09, 2011, 10:01:50 pm I just joined the SJG forums. Please add me as a friend if you're on there.
Edit: Scored a special Munchkin Deluxe version today on ebay that had Unnatural Axe included Only $33.99 with shipping. Also got #3 and a few accessories. Hoping to have the first play by the weekend. I'd like to get my hands on some of the promo stuff if anybody has extras. Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Deatheux on August 17, 2011, 04:17:10 pm cool, you will enjoy a lot this game!!
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on August 21, 2011, 10:51:15 pm Just bought the 2011 Christmas coins for less than $5 on ebay! ;D
Edit: OK, now I feel like a dunce. I just paid 25 cents more than retail plus $2.50 shipping from Europe to the US. I guess it pays to research. Not to mention that had I ordered from W23 they might have kicked in a promo card or two. :-\ Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: MrBlu on August 23, 2011, 02:06:46 pm Yeah, always check W23 first.
I'll go through my stuff to see what extras I have. Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on August 23, 2011, 05:07:46 pm I'll go through my stuff to see what extras I have. Awesome! {nw Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on December 16, 2011, 12:34:56 pm My collection is growing nicely. I have the deluxe edition from Go Games+ which came with #2 included. I have up through #7 (cheat with both hands) except #6. Not in a hurry for that one. I got the boxes of holding, all the Christmas boosters including the dice, Fairy Dust and dice, Munkinomicon, the shot glass, the Babes, the rainbow dice, both W23 boosters, Marked for Death, Monster Enhancers, Reloaded, the new dice bag, and a few promos. I'm waiting for the W23 blue Christmas die and the pink jumbo set to arrive any day now. Missed out on the GITD set. I did get the GITD pawn with one of my orders though. Mostly what I'm missing now are promo cards. I'm meeting a MIB for a game this weekend so maybe I'll wind up with some more stuff. Having a lot of fun with it so far.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on February 02, 2012, 02:36:47 pm Well, I'm certainly progressing quickly in my Munchkin addiction. I'm going to be an MIB! ;D I wish RGG had an equivalent.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Deatheux on February 04, 2012, 11:29:07 am i just add the 11th core set(Axe Cop) and i just CAN'T wait to play it!
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Carcatronn on February 05, 2012, 03:33:21 am We just played our first game of Munchkin Zombies tonight, how did I never pick this up before?? Saw the add for the Axe Cop in the box too :D
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Deatheux on February 05, 2012, 08:13:13 am axe cop is hilarious, let's say a mix of Zombies & cthulhu, but THE GOOD of cthulhu... i am not a huge fan of munchkin cthulhu, through it is a good enough set.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on February 05, 2012, 09:06:23 am I played Axe Cop once but not Zombies. I don't think they're for me and I'm not that intersted in Cthulhu either. I have also played Booty and Impossible once and they are fun. I wouldn't mind trying the others, but I'll probably stick to the base set.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on February 08, 2012, 10:26:56 pm You never know what you'll find in the back room of an FLGS. Today I scored a sealed Rigged Demo, an open set of the metal Miniatures with the cardboard Gazebo, and a sealed metal Level Counter, all of which are out of print. The level counter was on the shelf, but the others were in the back room on the demo shelf. Who knows how long they've been there. I snatched them up for less than $25 for the lot. When I got home, I found a Rigged Demo on ebay with a current bid of $50. There were only 5000 of those printed. Can't find the others, but I'd bet they are worth a little more than retail at least.
I'm going to try to turn these around and see what I can get for them. I'm not that interested in keeping them. I'd much rather have found the old Munchkin Dice. I really want a set of those. Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Carcatronn on February 09, 2012, 08:32:07 am I'd much rather have found the old Munchkin Dice. They put out a set of six oversized d10's a while ago with the cards that are now Munchkin Reloaded. They have a unique rule (of course) and they are really nice. I played with them a week or so ago. You can have a look HERE (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgameexpansion/14580/munchkin-dice). There was also a black one that was a promo. Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on February 28, 2012, 11:21:39 pm Munchkin 8 is finally available, my copy is on the way! ;D
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on April 22, 2012, 04:08:25 pm Officially MiB #9119. ;D Too bad there's not a Carcassonne equivalent.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Scott on June 05, 2012, 09:46:48 am This game was recently featured on Table Top (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6oMBSiL7Zs), and now that I see what it is all about, the desire to purchase is growing. :(
What is the purpose of having vast quantities of dice? My sons and I saw the Table Top episode and then went out and bought a copy. Of course mere hours after the video screened they sold out of the standard game so we got Star Munchkin. No idea for the vast tracks of dice other than maybe it looks cool and it's another way they can take ownership of our money? Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: Carcking on June 05, 2012, 02:17:43 pm My wife and I are going out to Gencon again this year. I have bypassed Munchkin before - not really knowing what it was about and tending toward other priorities - but this year I'll be sure to pay it some attention.
Title: Re: Munchkin Post by: CKorfmann on June 05, 2012, 05:56:21 pm I enjoy it. Check out the Munchkin episode at this link.
