Hmmm... Considering the use of several of my graphics... I'm not so sure I'm very fond of this...

I don't blame you one bit.  I wonder if there is some way to block the sale?

You could write a mail to the seller telling him that he should take the auctions down because of the obvious reasons and that if he won't take them down, you'll inform eBay about it.

He also sold several other expansions in the past. Just check his selling history.
Maybe an other option would be to buy an expansion and then give him a bad review and just write 'These expansions can be downloaded for free on carcassonnecentral.com'.  ;D

I'm not too happy about this. Even if he was allowed to do this, it seems the originators names of the expansions have been removed on the rule sheets.

I have contacted the seller via eBay reminding him that permission was granted to CC and BGG only for the distribution of my work. I have also asked why the authors names have been removed from the files and why he did not seek my permission before selling my work on eBay. I have also mentioned that he should remove work associated with me otherwise I will contact eBay.

edit: It seems like my 'Gallows' expansion has had its tile artwork changed, which is not the issue. As the artwork I used 'borrowed' from the official game, I can hardly complain that the artwork has been used in any shape. However, I would be most interested in the rule sheets, which seem to have been translated... but acknowledgements and names are left out.

hello carcassonne friends,

I don´t want to make any one angry about me. Therefor I think it will be better to remove all expansion which are too similar to the original (like gallows) - I changed the tile - the way of gallow in picture completly. anyway.

First I want to apologize me for the trouble and if anyone has a problem with my new version - he can write me an pn.

I removed from ebay gallows and the river to the sea.
gallows was a modified copy, and river to the sea is similar version, but with other steps of gameplay.
The offer for tradingspost are for the timber figure - (meeples)  I think this will be ok - because I know many friends who don´t know where they got the meeples.....

also I removed the gallows from the complete offer package on ebay.

This weekend will be the last ebay offer of carcassonne expansion by my self.

My extension - without ideas from other expansions.... will be downloadable in the next days here in forum -

here a list of my extensions:

Hugenotten Kathetrale
Hugenotten Kloster
Großstadt
Viehzucht
königliche Weg
Markt

also the modified versions of
river to the lake
gallows (with new tiles) will be downloadable

I hope I can to smooth ruffled feathers - an I say SORRY to everyone - who took offence

Thx

Lemmy

Sorry accepted on my side, but be aware that selling those expansions on eBay, even if you invented some of them, are against the law. Hans im Glück has the copyright to it.
And actions like these are what causes problems to fan websites with publishers. Just look at how things went between Games Workshop and BoardGameGeek.
Some publishers give fans the freedom to create their own fan expansions and publish them on the www as long as they are freely available. Charging money for it however changes things.

as a sidenote to Lemmy:

You are using (modified) official artwork of the game Carcassonne.
Even if it is modified, it's still copyright infringement.
If you're lucky, Hans im Glück won't do a thing.
If you're out of luck, well ........you'll go to court ......lose a lot of money...... get a criminal record.
Is it really worth the risk ?    You decide.

Even if it is modified, it's still copyright infringement.

That actually depends on where you are, and .. well a lot of other different things. It is not a given outcome in any way.

The "copyright discussion" is complex.

it is not possible to stop the ebay auctions - because the auctiontime is less then 12 hours and some bitters are there.

therefore i make the suggestion, I take the money to buy some carcassonne stuff and give it to a kids home.

May be we are getting new fans ;)

The pictures of validation are comming soon -

thx

Lemmy

oooh yes, i've been banned a month for "abusive language" due to the fact that i use the word "skull" in a phrase!!!

i think i still have the private post somewhere!

anyway there is not the uestion, i think that a dump impostor shall be punish by the LAW, selling free products and overwriting rights IS AN INFRACTION.

The person selling these items was not the OP. The OP was bringing this to the attention of the community, in particular the originators of the expansions that were being sold, so you have not been banned for less.

He / she is selling a Tower-expansion with some of the tower-pieces painted black and white and the rules for the Black Tower translated in German.

I'm not sure how to feel about this.  If someone wants to buy Carcassone figures, paint them and resell them, than as much as it stinks, I'm not sure there is much to say about it.  It would be ethical to at least get Joff's permission.  Selling the as Black Tower with the rules as written by Joff (though they may be translated) may present an issue though.

Title: Re: Look what I found .....
Post by: Joff on August 12, 2011, 01:05:33 am
The person that has sold Black Tower is indeed Lemmy once again, this time under a different user name (Lamm77).

If you right click on the images of this listing, you will find that they are hosted on Lemmy's website.

Although, after the last selling phase by Lemmy (using eBay username primelntopf) he e-mailed me the following (and also made a separate public post in this thread):
"hi I removed the expansions -

I thank you for the Idea of the game - I changed your cards and the rules, but I don´t want to have trouble with you and anybody else, therefor I removed the offers. This ebay offer will be the last - and no more offers - also other expansion will appear.

my concepted expansions will be released within the next few days on carcassonnecentral."

I simply wish that he would ask my permission first before doing anything. My expansions were released for Carcassonne Central and BGG only. Black Tower is a Carcassonne Central mini-expansion. Even if he has changed the rules slightly (which he is entitled to do), the artwork used in the rules is still my work (the artwork for the pieces by Oskar Lindqvist - the White Tower piece modified by me / tiles by HiG). It does not look like my name is on the expansion rules either (at least on the front page).

I would love to see the full rule sheet to this 'schwarze Turm' (Black Tower) expansion to see if he acknowledges the proper sources. At the very least he could give an acknowledgement as to where 'his' idea came from in the first place!

You know, even with the proper acknowledgements I don't think he should be profitting on the work of others. We create these ideas and put them out here freely for the free enjoyment of others. It doesn't seem right for someone to profit from these ideas.

I'm not sure what recourse we would have.  Even if we copywrited them ourselves, it would be difficult to stop him from a different country.  I guess we can just keep trying to appeal to him.

Is it not possible to report him to eBay and get his account blocked? I know he'll just start up another one each time, but we could at least get our point across.

My assumption is that ebay must have an office in each country and this would probably have to be handled by someone in Germany.  Matt would be the obvious choice, but with the semester beginning soon, he might be unavailable.
