Title: My custom made stuff...
Post by: morris on February 04, 2011, 01:46:26 pm
Hello,

These are the tiles that I made recently (most of them):

some additional tokens:

my tornado token:

...and some King's Orders cards:

This is what I call a "card kit": two sides of a card, a piece of some thicker paper to place in between and a card sleeve:

Now, still to do cutting and glueing...

... all this with my Carcassonne toolbox :)

(forgive me the quality of the photos, I have a lousy camera)

Holy smokes!

What are you printing the tiles on?

On standard 80g paper using an ordinary color laser printer. Then I cut the front and the back side and glue them to a tile cut from the white piece of thick paper you can see on the last photo.

Wow, that's a boatload of tiles.  I can't bring myself to make them out of cardboard.  I've put all of mine onto spare tiles.  If I weren't so OCD about it, it would be a lot easier.  The funny thing is mine don't look this nice (at least from afar). Great job though, thanks for posting.  Merit point for you.  :)

Hello again,

Back from short winter vacation.

Here's what I did today, a hand-made Carcassonne Dragon (it needs painting, though):

That looks very nice. How did you make it? Jigsaw? Hand-carved? What kind of wood?

Maybe it would be best if you just did a series of Instructables detailing every painstaking step. ;)

Ditto all!  ;)  Merit point for that!

The wood is balsa.

The steps were:
1. print a dragon outline
2. cut it out with scissors
3. stick it to a piece of wood (balsa)
4. use a knife to do some rough shaping
5. finetune the shape with a set of small needle files

I am curious how well does Order of the King play?

If you want to simplify those, buy card sleeves with a dark back, no need to print the card backs.

Then buy a cheap deck of playing cards to slip in behind the OotK ones.

On a related note, what do most people use to make glue tokens on?

I bought the tiles for the tiles, but not sure where to go on tokens.

I've made some tokens for Dungeons & Dragons. I used regular metal washers; you can get them fairly small and light. You could also go with wooden discs, which you could get from craft stores. They can be oddly expensive, though, compared to buying washers.

They don't really match the goods tokens in Carc though

I would probably canibalize an extra scoreboard to make non-standard sized stuff.  I think it's the same stock, isn't it?

Ah, okay. I thought you were asking about things like the Tornado token, above. I can see what you mean now.

I have made many of the fan based exp. and i have found that if you use a thick poster board just a little lighter weight then the carc tiles it works well for the tokens.  And if you have a very sharp pair of scissors you can cut them out.  I Xyron (sp) all my print outs which turns them into permanent stickers and then with just a touch of sanding some are hard to tell a dif between mine and rio's.

I've made another dragon. This time I used hardboard, because I find balsa too light after all. I painted the dragon with nail polish and also made him a companion :)

Now I'm going to make a Count or two ;D

The PDFs ready to print are here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2GVZ1T8A
I printed them (fronts and backs) on separate sheets, cut them out and put in sleeves.
