Title: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Joff on December 14, 2010, 04:24:52 am Here: http://www.bordspel.com/nieuws/nieuws_actueel_20101212.html (http://www.bordspel.com/nieuws/nieuws_actueel_20101212.html)
And the Google translation: "999 games in the spring of 2011 A brief glance at the annual plans of 999 games. The 'tenth' anniversary of Carcassonne 999 According to the Games is successful legspel Carcassonne in 2011 ten years. Visitors to the show for 2000 Games know this is not true, because the first copies of the Dutch edition has been available on that exchange. The 'tenth anniversary of Carcassonne is celebrated next year with three products: * Carcassonne Anniversary Edition: a special anniversary edition in the form of a serf. Besides the basic game, this edition is the expansion "The Feast". In this expansion, players can occasionally serfs to their stock back. * Carcassonne the Dice: Dice a variant of the basic Carcassonne game. The players diced districts together to build the biggest city. Knights can double their point total. Who will be the first 42 points? * Carcassonne Meeple Box : This is a transparent box for the meeples (the international pet name for the serfs from Carcassonne), including six transparent meeples. A box contains five basic colors, plus gray 'Extension'. The set also contains a special jubilee rule." Perhaps one of our members could provide a better translation. Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Whaleyland on December 14, 2010, 10:59:09 am I had heard of the Dice Game earlier. I wonder if it will act as an expansion as well, or only be a stand-alone. Doesn't really matter to me. It sounds rather basic, even for Carcassonne.
I had not, however, heard of these other two releases. It makes me think that Hans im Glück may be releasing these too, and 999 Games just jumped the gun a tad bit. I mean, why would a distributor get all excited about the 10th anniversary, but not the producer? Anyway, so it seems we have two new things for the base Carcassonne set coming out in Spring 2011: • Carcassonne Anniversary Edition, which includes the new expansion called "The Feast" which allows people to put their followers back in their supply (at least that's what your translation seems to say). • Carcassonne Meeple Box, which comes with maybe a full set (six seems like two short, though) of transparent followers and a storage container for them, as well as either a special variant rule called "Jubilee" or a special game that can be played just with the followers themselves. Regardless of the results, we have at least one new expansion coming, although it seems to be very Crop Circles-esque by being a part of the base game. Perhaps Jay will someday get around to making it stand-alone. Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Whaleyland on December 17, 2010, 02:12:32 am I tried searching around for any news on the German release of this and I couldn't find anything, but I can't see Hans im Glück skipping an opportunity to release a 10th Anniversary Edition of their most expansive game. I'm 100% certain that this will be release by HiG and that 999 Games just jumped the gun with the release information. Except for Cult, Siege & Creativity and Games Quarterly 11, Rio Grande hasn't released anything big that didn't first appear from HiG. From what it sounds like, 999 Games is releasing a tacked on expansion to their anniversary edition which hopefully will either be available separately by RGG (someday) or as an item by a là Crop Circles directly from HiG. I also really want to know what this Jubilee Variant is, because I'm sure it won't require a purchase of the expansion. Most rules are available separately from expansions, no matter how hard companies may or may not try to keep them secret.
Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: CKorfmann on January 19, 2011, 12:03:46 am Carcassonne Meeple Box, which comes with maybe a full set (six seems like two short, though) of transparent followers I figure that it is one in each color which would be six. (confirmed) Has anyone heard any more about this? I found a few references, but nothing too telling. (It would help if I spoke these languages.) http://www.moenen-en-mariken.nl/producten/?offset=15 http://www.999games.nl/spel/Carcassonne+Uitbreiding+De+Volgeling (in Afrikaans - includes photo) http://www.999games.nl/spel/Carcassonne+Jubileum+Editie+%2B+Uitbreiding+Het+Feest (in Afrikaans - includes photo) http://www.spellenhuis.nl/spellen-gezelschapsspel-c-1468_1486.html Looks like they are available for preorder from several sites. It's interesting then that there is no more significant information. Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Sekim on January 19, 2011, 12:39:40 am That's not Afrikaans but dutch ;)
Both languages are quite similar, so you're excused ;D I'll try my best on a translation of De volgeling (The follower) This little box contains 6 transparant 'Phantoms' in different colours (I presume for each player 1 Phantom) which can be combined with any Carcassonne game and expansion. During your turn, after placing the tile, you are allowed to put a Phantom together with another Follower onto that tile. This way you can take advantage of multiple features on a single tile at once. Carcassone:The follower isn't just fun for yourself but it's also fun to give away as a present. You get the Phantom back when the feature is completed. At Moenen en Marieken it costs €2.95. Looks like I'll be replacing all my meeples with transparent ones and use the regulars as Phantom ;D Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Sekim on January 19, 2011, 12:44:35 am And here's my best try at 'Het feest' (The feast), which comes in a nicely meeple shaped box.
The tiles of 'The feast' give you the possibility to take your meeples back. Yeah ... that's all about The Feast ;D Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: CKorfmann on January 19, 2011, 12:45:02 am That's not Afrikaans but dutch ;) Both languages are quite similar, so you're excused ;D I'll try my best on a translation of De volgeling (The follower) This little box contains 6 transparant 'Phantoms' in different colours (I presume for each player 1 Phantom) which can be combined with any Carcassonne game and expansion. Thanks also for the correction. It was Google translate that told me it was Afrikaans, figures. Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Sekim on January 19, 2011, 12:55:03 am You're welcome ;)
btw.. I found this site with the rules about the dice game: http://www.goedkopegezelschapsspellen.nl/?page=catalog&view=product&product_id=1124 (http://www.goedkopegezelschapsspellen.nl/?page=catalog&view=product&product_id=1124) I don't know if the rules have been translated yet, but here it comes. Player throw the dice 3 times max. They try to build the largest possible city with the dice and get points for it. A thrown catapult means that you're not allowed to throw that die again during your turn. When throwing a minimum of 3 knights the player won't get points this turn but the player takes 1 knight and put it face up in front of him. At the players next turn, his points are doubled. The first player who has 42 points wins the game. €8.95 sounds like I need to buy some of those aswell ;D Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Sekim on January 19, 2011, 01:06:41 am http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/889502/carcassonne-jubilaumsedition (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/889502/carcassonne-jubilaumsedition)

Of course they are already backlogged on Tunnels, Crop Circles and the The Plague...hmmm...add in phantom meeples and whatever the feast and jubilee rules are and we have a nice big expansion. That would be a nice anniversary release for the US. All the mini expansions we don't have yet! EDIT: Also, from pics on BGG it looks like the clear meeples come with the anniversary box set with 10 new tiles as well (which i guess is the Feast?) So is the small pack of clear meeples identical to the anniverary edition meeples or will they be a different shape (ie mayor, big, builder) to differentiate them? Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Whaleyland on January 19, 2011, 01:32:29 pm lol. I find it funny that someone found all these links suddenly when I have been searching for information on this expansion since that first leak about a month ago. Meh. I'm glad it is finally posted on BGG. The funny thing is, though, that it shouldn't have it's own entry. It's Carcassonne – [10th] Anniversary Edition, with the Feast. That should just be another version of the base game according to BGG rules. Anywho.
Check out this BGG thread: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/603787/what-will-the-new-land-tiles-look-like. It shows what appears to be a display box for the "Entourage" (Phantom) expansion. Each container comes with the 5 primary Carcassonne colors (gray gets shafted again) and a rules sheet for, presumably, the Entourage expansion. What is even stranger, though, is that there is a sixth color, purple, that doesn't exist as a player color. So not only does gray get shafted, but purple comes from left field and takes over the party. Anyway, so if you want five-six meeple holders in the shapes of meeples, you'll have to buy six copies of Entourage and gray will have to go in the purple case. On the plus side, that will get you almost up to a full seven meeples to play with. The Feast sounds fun, especially if it is a 10-tile expansion. I really want that giant meeple box, too! But I'm not too happy with Carcassonne releasing yet another expansion-in-a-base-game like Wheel of Fortune and Crop Circles. It just is annoying. I already have two base games. Hopefully I can just buy the Feast directly from Hans im Glück like I did Crop Circles. And I don't want 14 transparent meeples, regardless of how cool they are, because even if I do buy the Anniversary Edition, I need to pick up the meeple holders included in Entourage. Ugh. Hans im Glück! How I loathe thee... Edit: I just sent an email to Jay at Rio Grande about the release of these three products. Fingers crossed. Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: CKorfmann on January 19, 2011, 02:11:30 pm I found them by searching the German name. Struck out with English. I think they just look purple. They must be grey, though I'm sure it wouldn't hurt Gwommy's feelings any. ;)

I think they look awesome. But they will be a pain to differentiate on the board. I think having just one per color will be much more manageable. Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Whaleyland on January 20, 2011, 05:30:27 pm Didn't bother asking. He already told someone on BGG that they would be out sometime this year. That's all he said apparently.
In other news, there will indeed be 6 transparent meeples in the meeple boxes! Yay! Even though the promo photo only shows 5, the sixth is displayed in the rules and the rules clearly state that there are 6 meeples and that the gray player uses the purple one. Weird how they did that, but I agree that gray and black transparent cases would probably be hard to do. Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Boondocker on February 03, 2011, 10:12:39 pm Great stuff, Whaleyland.
So, if I'm understanding the pictures correctly, you can get the 'phantom' meeples two ways: in a pack by themselves or with the Celebration edition of the base game. Is that right? Edit: Ugh, now I'm thinking that the Celebration edition only comes with five colours... so if you want a sixth phantom meeple and the celebration tiles, you have to get both. Well played, HiG. Well played. >:3 Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Whaleyland on February 04, 2011, 02:08:21 am Oh, it gets more complex than that. MUCH more complex. The "Phantom" meeples of Entourage are considered normal meeples in the Anniversary Edition. What's worse is that each Entourage set comes in a different colored box with the six followers in it. Expanding that math out, you need to buy six different Entourage sets to get the six different colors. Then a new problem develops: you have 6 "Phantom" meeples of each color. SO, at that point you probably just want to buy one or two more Entourage sets just to bring that total to 7 or 8 – a complete set of meeples for the base game. Assuming, by that point, you want a complete set. Otherwise, you're just stuck with a butt-load of Phantom meeples you don't need. To make things even worse, if you HAVE to buy the Anniversary Edition AND all six colors of Entourage, you'll be stuck with a whopping 14 copies of each color meeple except purple/gray. Fun times!
Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Boondocker on February 04, 2011, 06:33:09 am Waaaaaaait, are you sure? Because it sure seemed to me like the Entourage sets contained one meeple of each colour, regardless of the case's colour. In fact, that's what the rules you translated read as:
"The entourage consists of 6 transparent phantoms in 6 colors. The purple phantom is for the gray player." Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Talisinbear on February 04, 2011, 08:06:00 am so the anniversary set is the same as basic game , plus the 10 new tiles?
Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: CKorfmann on February 04, 2011, 09:31:52 am I wonder if you could purchase the feast tiles seperately as "spare parts" similar to the way they offer Crop Circles.

In fact, that's what the rules you translated read as: "The entourage consists of 6 transparent phantoms in 6 colors. The purple phantom is for the gray player." The Entourage DOES consist of one meeple of each color. Thus, if you buy six sets, you will have six of each color. Eight sets, eight of each color. I wonder if you could purchase the feast tiles seperately as "spare parts" similar to the way they offer Crop Circles. Already on it. Sent an email to HiG yesterday morning. Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Boondocker on February 04, 2011, 02:09:14 pm Yeah, but you said:
What's worse is that each Entourage set comes in a different colored box with the six followers in it. Expanding that math out, you need to buy six different Entourage sets to get the six different colors. That reads like you're saying each Entourage set comes with six meeples of one colour (e.g., six red, translucent meeples). I think we're getting our wires crossed. To me, it looks like if I want the Celebration tiles as well as one translucent meeple of each colour, I have to buy the Celebration edition and one Entourage set. I have over 60 blank tiles I bought in Europe for fan-mades and I really don't like using actual printed tiles for that. No, I will just sell it to my sister and brother-in-law for $10 or something. Assuming all the tiles are the same as the normal version, they can have the new tiles minus the expansion as well as my Wheel of Fortune meeples. Most years have seen a big expansion (2002 to 2010 has seen nine of them, including Wheel of Fortune) so this year would be unusual if HiG did not release one.

It looks as though all of the meeples in this set are the transparent plastic variety. No new tile configurations and I don't really like the symbol, but it is festive. The meeple shaped score board is pretty cool though.
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/89952/carcassonne-jubilaumsedition I wrote Jay to inquire as to when we might see this in the states. Got this response from Jay rather quickly: Quote I expect them sometime next month, but have had no ship date yet. I'm not kidding myself; I'll buy it...lol...at the end of the day I am usually a completist.

Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: vagabondriot on April 28, 2011, 09:54:54 pm I bought a copy of Stone Age recently and it was missing a few pieces. I have been in contact with Jay at RGG and he's sending me the new pieces. I also asked him about any news of The Tunnel, Crop Circles, or The Plague while I was at it. Hopefully he'll give a reply.

Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: vagabondriot on June 04, 2011, 08:11:34 pm I visited my FLGS today and they had the 10th Anniversary Edition, the Phantom Expansion, and Carc: the Dice Game in stock. I guess that they're around now, although none of the online retailers have them in yet (e.g. boardsandbits, funagaingames, or fairplaygames). I'm a little short on cash at the moment so I'll have to wait for the less expensive internet retailers to sell it before I buy though, so I can't give much info on the actual contents of the box
Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Carcatronn on June 07, 2011, 10:26:01 am Played the Dice Game and the Phantom expansion last night. I am very impressed with how they came out!
The extra meeple placing with the Phantom when you want the farm and the city on your tile makes this expansion worth it. The Dice game was addictive and played well with three people. Hard to not roll catapult, but very fun nonetheless. :-) Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Scott on June 08, 2011, 08:02:43 pm All are in stock at my FLGS, which has on-line ordering available and flat-rate shipping of $10 to anywhere in Canada and $15 to anywhere in the USA:

Can't wait to tear into it. I also grabbed Cornucopia for Dominion...didn't even know it was out.
Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: vagabondriot on June 13, 2011, 07:03:24 pm I received Dominion Cornucopia today too (but I still can't find Carc 10th edition online). Make sure to check that your Cornucopia copy has all the cards. Some shipments went out missing one of the three packets inside (Mine had all of them luckily).

Just sold my last Carc 10th anniversary today and won't get any new ones in until August... Sorry vagabondriot good luck shopping! (you should still check out my other item listings, which new official Carcassonne clothing will be coming as well soon :) ) Title: Re: 2011 releases: Carcassonne dice game; Anniversary edition; Meeple box Post by: Carcking on June 17, 2011, 11:07:20 am I received my set on Monday and really like it.
Here is what I would suggest to HiG and/or RGG: First, they should have included the 6 meeple translucent colors in the box, instead of just the main 5. If they had trouble with the gray translucent color that could have easily come up with a new color. How about lavender? Second, they also should have come up with a better translucent color to match the gray, instead of the lavender. I don't mind this so much because we made our own set of purple meeples a while back and the lavender works well for that. My wife was excited because she uses purple and now she will have a matching phantom! I just don't think it works so well with the gray meeple. In case anyone is wondering (I know I was before hand), the set comes with the following meeples: 10th Anniversary = 8 meeples of each of 5 translucent colors (red, black, green, blue, yellow) Phantom = 1 meeple in each of 6 translucent colors (red, black, green, blue, yellow, lavender) Happy playing! I agree with the lavender meeple for the gray set... A clear no color meeple would have been better for gray, but my wife too enjoys the lavender with our purple set too :-) I think the Phantom expansion was intended to be played with the wooden meeples so possibly why a sixth set in box was not included? But it was disappointing nonetheless. I tore into it the next day to look at the cards and it appears I have everything. I like the new prize idea...I think a couple of those are wicked. On topic...(lol)...I still haven't had time to play with any of this new stuff. Sigh. And my four year old has already snagged my phantom set and lost the rules and one of the meeples...grrrrr...guess I have to buy another set and put it on a higher shelf.
