Title: Wagon and Fairy
Post by: bonfiregirl on July 17, 2010, 03:46:20 pm
Please forgive me if this question has been asked before (and I am sure that it must have been) but I have spent a couple of hours trying the find the answer - to no avail.

When re-deploying the wagon, i.e. moving from a completed feature to an incomplete connected feature, can one then place the fairy, as a new follower has not been placed, simply moved along?

Thanks for your time

Kathy

This is a good question. I can't find it anywhere in the CAR (http://carc.mjharper.de/CARnew.pdf (http://carc.mjharper.de/CARnew.pdf) for your reference), but I would say that deploying the wagon to an adjacent feature still counts as deploying a follower, so the fairy can't be moved in addition. However, this is just my interpretation. If someone knows or believes otherwise, feel free to speak up.

Moving the wagon counts as "moving the wood", even if it was already on the table to begin with. You can't move the fairy.

The rules for the wagon indicate that it moves "after scoring".

"If a feature occupied by a wagon is scored, the wagon counts as a normal follower. After scoring, the player may return the wagon to his or her supply, or may move the wagon to a directly adjacent road, city or cloister."

Rules for the fairy state, "Instead of deploying a follower, the builder or the pig, a player may now decide to move the neutral fairy next to one of his or her followers "

I would say that the option to move the fairy happens, then scoring happens, after which, the wagon is moved. Therefore, you should be able to use them both on the same turn.

That is my technical interpretation. I don't know if that goes against the spirit of the game in regards to the fairy.

I would agree with this. The wagon is definitely moved (or removed) after scoring has taken place. The Fairy is moved before scoring takes place.
